Chapter 245
Winston whispered, “Let go.”
“No.” With red–rimmed eyes, Joanna shook her head, invoking a sense of sympathy.
Millie frowned at seeing Joanna’s hands firmly gripping Winston’s waist. Then, she feigned indifference and said, “I’ve checked in on Grandma. Everything’s fine. Now that I’ve delivered the message, I’ll be heading back to work.”
Having said that, Millie turned back.
“Millie,” Winston instinctively called out.
She turned to look at him, but her gaze inevitably fell on Joanna. Millie. hummed and calmly said, “Go ahead.”
Winston frowned as their eyes locked. After a brief silence, he said, “Let’s talk after you clock out.”
She looked into his eyes. His gaze held a multitude of thoughts tinged with doubt and resentment. She felt as though she was beginning to grasp something.
Millie averted her gaze and lightly nodded. “Okay.”
Millie figured she would have to shoulder the blame again. She chuckled wryly, releasing a quiet sigh.
Winston observed as she walked away. Then, he looked at Joanna and said, ” You can let go now.”
Of course, he knew what schemes Joanna was plotting in her mind.
Joanna silently let go of Winston and couldn’t help but study his expression. His lack of reproach indicated his acceptance of her behavior.
With this tacit approval, she was determined to assert herself even more in the future.
“Win, let’s go see Mrs. Greer Senior.” Joanna stood up to follow Winston.
Winston straightened his clothes, lightly dusting off where Joanna had just held him.

“You shouldn’t go. Grandma just woke up and isn’t feeling well,” he responded lightly.
Wouldn’t it anger Selma more if Joanna went to see her now?
“Win, Mrs. Greer Senior still can’t accept me, right?” Joanna lowered her head, deeply saddened.
“She will. It’s just a matter of time.”
Winston then called Eli and instructed, “Come take Ms. Lowell home.”
After he hung up, Joanna halted in her tracks. Her gaze dimmed as she watched Winston enter the emergency department.
Alas, she still couldn’t win over his heart.
In the ward, Winston was overwhelmed with guilt while looking at Selma lying on the bed.
Selma’s complexion was pallid, with an oxygen mask strapped over her face. It was evident that her condition was dire. Sebastian had warned that her life was in immediate danger.
Winston frowned, but Selma refused to look at him. Instead, she averted her gaze and asked Gloria, “Mills…”
Her voice was soft, and her breath caused a mist to form inside the oxygen. mask. Gloria nodded. “Millie is working. She’ll come visit you once she finishes.
“News…” Selma murmured with a frown, struggling to speak.
“Do you mean the news about Winston? Brian has found someone to handle it. Don’t worry. It won’t affect our family,” Gloria reassured her.
