Naomi swallowed hard and asked from behind, “Aspher?” 

Millie smiled. Naomi was a tough woman to handle. 

She hooked her arm around Layla’s, her confusion evident as she asked, “Grandma, if 

she wants to leave, why not just let her go? The lab can just manage fine without her. 

Layla sighed. “What do you mean ‘let her go? She was just venting. Did you really think she meant it? It’s true that our research hasn’t made any progress in years, so it’s only natural that everyone’s feeling frustrated. 

“Naomi may be arrogant, but she’s not a bad person. I just need to persuade her, and she’ll stay.” 

Millie glanced at Layla’s face. Despite being 70, she was still as strong–willed and spirited as ever. She didn’t look her age at all, more like someone in her 50s. 

Her posture was impeccable. While her skin had started to sag a little, it didn’t diminish her looks. Millie couldn’t help but think that Layla was tough on the outside but had a heart of gold. 

If it were up to Millie, she would’ve let Naomi go. After all, they could always find someone else. Yet, Layla couldn’t bring herself to ignore the effort everyone had invested. 

The door to the lab swung open, and a group of researchers in lab coats turned to look. 

“Professor Cadmore,” they greeted in unison. 

Layla hummed in acknowledgment before making her way to the central workbench with the box. Everyone gathered around immediately, not forgetting to greet Millie as well. 

Millie responded with a smile. 

“Professor Cadmore, what’s in the box?” someone asked. 

Layla tapped the box and replied seriously, “This is something that will push our research forward!” 

“If it’s something relevant to the research, could it be a rare herb?” one of the
