She's out of Your League Now (Millie and Winston) novel Chapter 8

Chapter 8

The man was baffled and immediately replied, II was only kidding. Did you take it seriously?”

Of course. Why wouldn’t I? I’ve always taken things seriously since I was a little girl.Millie picked up a wine glass and sipped on its

contents

She recalled how Winston defended, carried, and made all sorts of gentle gestures toward Joanna. That enraged her to no end

Was she really worse than Joanna? And how so? Why did Winston. always see her as an eyesore

How could you be so petty, Millie? It’s no wonder Winston dislikes you!the man thundered

Millie looked at him. The mention of Winston poked her in a sensitive spot

How dare these people call her petty? They would’ve reacted negatively if she hadn’t saved Patrick earlier

They wouldn’t have spared her if she asked them to, would they? Of course not! They would only stomp on her dignity harder and cast her into more torture

Since that was the case, what right did they have to call her petty

Millie smashed the wine glass onto the ground beside the man’s feet. Her eyes narrowed frostily at him. I’ll help you kneel since you refuse.”

With that, she took out another fountain pen

The crowd rose to a clamor, wondering what she was doing now

As for the man, he felt a sense of foreboding. After all, he had seen how Millie stabbed Patrick’s neck with the fountain pen earlier

She did it fast and mercilessly, yet there wasn’t any blood. Her killer movements were almost undetectable. The thought of it scared the man as he gulped and stepped back

Millie’s eyes fixed on the man ahead while she twirled the fountain pen between two fingers. She took her time and moved lazily. At the same time, her eyes gleamed with malice, and her words drawled charmingly. Did you know that while I can use this to save a life, I can also kill with it?”

Chills tingled the man’s spine once he heard that

So, I’ll give you three seconds to think it through. Will you kneel, or Millie’s right foot left the high chair she sat on. Her eyes were still on the man, and the tip of her foot was about to touch the ground

That was when a loud thud sounded. The man had knelt willingly. and at once. He bowed his upper body parallel to the ground as his cries filled the air. You’re a living god! You truly are! It was my fault. for assuming otherwise. I know that now. I was stupid and ignorant for not knowing your incredible abilities. Please spare me this once. I beg of you!”

He couldn’t stop begging, and even his legs trembled beneath him

The man had made vicious comments earlier when Millie was rescuing Patrick. Yet, he now behaved like an utter coward

Millie turned to look at her surroundings. The darkness radiating from her eyes seemed to say, Is anyone else unhappy with me?”

Silence befell the scene. Everyone observed without daring to speak as if watching a movie. After all, who would dare disobey upon seeing her threat

Millie seldom showed her face in public since marrying Winston. She never reacted, even when Winston and Joanna acted like

loving couple. So, everyone assumed Millie was a useless pushover, spoiled rotten by the Caldwell family

But now, how could one associate this arrogant lady with the term pushover

Millie stood after no one spoke

Everyone immediately stepped back once they saw that

Millie chuckled at their behavior. Were they that afraid of her? It affirmed her belief that one shouldn’t appear too weak in others‘

eyes

She approached the man, who looked up at her. Then, she put a foot on his head and forced him to touch the ground. Her gaze lowered onto him as she sneered, This is how you grovel and prove your sincerity.”

After saying that, she left without sparing him another glance

Henry watched Millie leave. He couldn’t help shaking his head and chuckling. Once again, she had made him see her in a new light

Millie leaned against the elevator wall in exhaustion

The doors opened when the screen indicated she was on the first floor

Millie straightened herself and barely took a few steps before her foot hurt. Irritated, she removed her heels and carried them as she walked out. She couldn’t care less about the curious looks coming her way

It had started to rain outside at some point

Millie tilted her head upward, allowing raindrops to land on her cheeks. The dim lighting shined onto her face and gave her the

appearance of an ethereal beauty

After exiting a situation where she had the upper hand, Millie suddenly felt like she was indescribably crumbling away

Then, she noticed something from the corner of her eye and froze. Looking ahead, she saw Winston in his black dress shirt as he leaned against the car

Winston turned his head to the side as he lit a cigarette. The flame from the lighter illuminated his face

The light rain dripped onto his shoulders. He didn’t use an umbrella

Winston draped his coat on one arm, held his cigarette between two fingers, and slowly blew several smoke rings. A chilly energy -radiated from him as his indifferent gaze traveled toward Millie

The moonlight barely lit the space while he remained there in silence. That made it difficult not to notice him

Let’s talk, Millie. His words indicated he had been waiting here for her

Millie’s grip tightened on her heels. Even her lashes trembled

She wondered why he had specially waited here for her. Did he plan to discuss their divorce? Was he that eager to get divorced and have his lover become his new wife

That thought left Millie sad. She suppressed the ache in her heart. and forced a slight smile, wanting to appear more composed. I know you’re busy. We don’t have to talk anymore. I don’t want anything, and I will go with whatever you decide.”

A frown marred Winston’s face when he heard that. That was how he always remembered Millie to be. She never disturbed him

because she worried he was too busy

Whenever they had to attend family dinners together, she’d say,

know you’re busy. I’ll go to your family home and handle things first.”

When she hoped he’d spend her birthday with her, she said, I know you’re busy. Just keep me company for half an hour. That’s more than enough.”

The same happened when she fell sick and got hospitalized. Winston’s family members asked him to visit her, but she said, Go back to work. I’m fine, so you don’t have to stay here with me.”

She did the same even now when they were getting divorced

Winston wondered who it was that always claimed Millie was an ignorant person. He kept his eyes on her and suddenly said, I’m not. busy.”

Millie’s heart skipped a beat, her eyes snapping wide open in

surprise. That was her first time hearing that from Winston in their three years of marriage. It felt surreal to her

Yet, she quickly found it ironic, thinking he was only eager because he wanted to discuss their divorce

Millie,Henry called out from behind
