After throwing the phone and the car keys at Josiah, he hooked his arm around Winnie’s shoulder and began leading her away without further ado.
Upon noticing Xavier’s impatience, Josiah hastily stopped him.
“Wait! I have something to talk with you about.”
Xavier glanced at Josiah before lifting his arm to look at his watch. He then ruthlessly stated, “You have five minutes; it starts now.”
His words rendered Josiah speechless. What in the world is he playing at?
Meanwhile, Xavier felt his precious time was getting wasted with how his good friend was in a daze.
In response, he knitted his brows and uttered, “Why are you still silent? You have four and a half minutes left.”
Josiah took in a deep breath at that. “Fine, fine. I’ll say it now. I don’t even need five minutes; one will be enough. Here’s the thing. Since you’re here, I’d like to invite you to an examination.”
Xavier’s frown deepened. “What examination?”
Josiah smiled. “An intelligence test.”
“Are you off your rocker?” Xavier barked out an angry laugh. “Maybe you should test if you’re having a fever or not. I don’t have the time to play games with you right now. Goodbye. Oh, by the way, don’t leave your car at my place next time.”
With that said, Xavier began leading Winnie out of the hospital again.
However, Winnie did not budge as she remained rooted to her spot.
Her lack of movement made Xavier lower his head to look at her. “What’s the matter? Do you feel ill?”
“Yes.” Winnie did not bother keeping up with her mentally-challenged act. After all, even if she acted normally, Xavier still treated her as if she was the Dumbo from before.
What came out of Winnie’s mouth next were words that she had agreed on with Josiah before Xavier arrived.
“I’m going to do the intelligence test, but I’m nervous and scared. Can you accompany me to it?”
“You’re going to take the test?” Indeed, Xavier did not notice how she sounded like the average person at all. Instead, he turned to cast a dubious look at Josiah.
Josiah shrugged. “That’s right. There might be a way to treat her mental impairment, but she’ll have to take a test first. However, she’s timid, so I’d suggest that it’s best for you to be by her side. Will that be fine with you?”
Xavier shot Josiah a look. “Why didn’t you say this earlier? How long will it take?”
“It won’t take too long.”
Xavier hummed in response before turning to Winnie. “Are you tired? If you are, we’ll go home to rest before coming back here for the test tomorrow.”
Frankly, Winnie was tired, but Xavier seemed energetic.
Thus, she shook her head and told him, “I’m not tired at all. Let’s do it now. I won’t be scared with you by my side.”
“Good!” Xavier suddenly reached out to lift Winnie’s chin and grinned. “You’ve pleased me with your words. Here’s your reward.”
With that, he lowered his head to plant a kiss on Winnie’s lips.
Winnie was astounded into silence. A reward, my f*cking foot!
Josiah was speechless as well, but his thoughts were different from Winnie’s. Did he really have to do this in front of a single man?
