She then asked Winnie, “Mrs. Fairchild, would you like to drink something?”
“No, it’s fine. It’s late, so we’re going to rest now.”
After dismissing the housekeepers, Winnie and Xavier went upstairs to the master bedroom on the second floor.
That place used to be their room, and they spent many interesting nights there.
Winnie could not help but feel wistful upon returning to the room after over a month.
The last time she returned to retrieve her laptop in the playroom, she had taken some clothes with her as well. Hence, Winnie could not help but wonder if she had anything to change into after her shower later.
With that thought in her mind, Winnie reached out to open the walk-in closet’s door.
There were still many clothes in the closet. Everything was still where it used to be as if the place had been left untouched the entire time.
At that, Winnie could not help but ask Xavier, “You haven’t told anyone to clean this place up after I left?”
Walking over to hug her from behind, Xavier sharply replied, “What are you talking about? Are you thinking of leaving me? I won’t let you do that!”
“Right,” Winnie muttered, holding the arm around her waist. “Asking you is pointless. You don’t remember all these anyway.”
Xavier had no idea what she was muttering about. He only knitted his brows and insisted, “Dumbo, I don’t care if you understand this or not, but don’t you dare think of leaving me!”
“Fine.” Winnie sighed. It seemed he was not going to change his impression of her any time soon.
“What’s the matter? Is there something you’re not happy about? I can’t believe you’re sighing, Dumbo. You used to be so happy over just a candy.”
Xavier then whipped his head over and pressed a kiss on Winnie’s cheek.
“Is it because you can’t find any nice dresses to wear? You’re my wife. How can I let you get frustrated over something like that? Don’t worry. I’ll make sure you’ll be the most eye-catching woman at the charity gala that’s in three days.”
Winnie almost let out a resigned sigh at that. The charity gala had been such a long time ago, but Xavier still thought it was happening in three days’ time.
After a moment of rumination, she remarked, “I don’t want to go to the charity gala anymore. You shouldn’t go either. I don’t feel good, and I want you to keep me company at home.”
“You’re not feeling good? Why didn’t you tell me this when we were at the hospital?” In the next second, Xavier lifted Winnie up and turned her around.
He then cupped her face and began studying it.
Xavier’s eyes were dark and glistening, and Winnie could see her own reflection in his eyes.
However, she also noticed the red veins in his eyes. That reminded her of the time when he was losing his mind.
At that thought, she sighed. As she reached out to hug Xavier, she mumbled, “It’s nothing serious, so I don’t need to see a doctor for it.”
Xavier froze. Two seconds later, he, too, reached out to caress the back of her head.
“You like hugging me, hmm? Do you want me to carry you to the bathroom like before?”
“Sure.” Winnie nodded. She used to ask for his affection in that way when she was still pretending to be mentally impaired.
Then, she would tease him until his limits, but somehow, he always managed to hold himself back.
