At the same time, Xavier knew that Winnie was ringing the doorbell outside.
After giving it some thought, Xavier replied to Josiah, “I know.”
With that, he hung up the phone and put it on the couch.
Outside, Winnie furrowed his brows, for she had waited for quite a long time.
Xavier was the one who asked me to come. Why does it seem that he’s not at home?
Winnie looked at her watch. If this godd*mn Xavier doesn’t open the door in a minute, I’ll demolish his house!
Just as she wanted to press the doorbell again, Xavier opened the door.
Xavier’s formal suit perfectly wrapped his muscular body. At that moment, Winnie couldn’t help but feel he was the definition of perfection.
He looks handsome… but it’s getting late.
Winnie quickly withdrew her gaze of admiration and asked, “Why are you wearing a formal suit at this hour when you’re at home? Are you planning to go out?”
“Nope.” Xavier opened the door and stood sideways to let Winnie enter. “I want to see my wife. I haven’t had a good chat with her for quite some time.”
Winnie stopped and turned around. “Are you referring to your wife who’s living downstairs?”
After closing the door gently, Xavier stared at Winnie fixedly. “You’re right.”
“Great! You still remember your wife.” Winnie gave Xavier a thumbs-up, then let out a sigh. “Anyway, please have the medicine, lest you go crazy and scare your wife.”
Xavier flashed her a faint smile. “Yes, Doctor.”
At the sight of his seducing smile, Winnie almost couldn’t resist her desire to beat him up.
How can Xavier bar me from hugging and kissing him but put on a seducing smile? How immoral!
Winnie ignored Xavier and continued walking into the house with the medicine in her hand.
When Winnie stood at the door earlier, she realized Xavier’s house was dimly lit.
At that time, she didn’t think there was anything wrong with it. After all, some people preferred a darker environment.
However, after she walked down the aisle and arrived in the living room, she was surprised.
The marble floor and the chandelier made up of many tiny crystals on the ceiling were glimmering amid the darkness. At that moment, the living room appeared to be covered with extravagant and dazzling small diamonds.
Besides, a table with candles was placed in the middle. Apparently, Xavier had prepared a candlelight dinner.
Winnie was puzzled.
Didn’t he say he wanted to look for Rachel? Why did he ask me out for dinner, then?
Isn’t the romantic candlelight dinner prepared for his wife? To Xavier, I’m supposed to be Dr. Garland, am I not?
Winnie frowned and turned around to look at Xavier.
Before Winnie could ask Xavier any questions, he strode toward her.
“How is it? Do you like it?” Xavier asked Winnie under the dim light.
His obsidian eyes that reflected the light were as mesmerizing as the dazzling marble tiles and crystals in the living room.
Although Winnie silently admitted that Xavier had somehow mesmerized her, her mind was filled with doubts.
“Xavier, what do you mean by asking me those questions? Are you telling me you’ve prepared everything for me? Then tell me, who I am to you?”
“Shush!” Xavier didn’t respond to Winnie’s questions but grabbed the medicine bottle from her.
The medicine was still hot, so he should only drink it when it became colder.
However, Xavier got increasingly impatient, so much so that he even hoped to skip the candlelight dinner.
I was supposed to enjoy a romantic candlelight dinner with Dumbo first.
Well… I guess it won’t affect much if I reverse the order.
With that thought, Xavier raised his head and gulped down the bitter medicine.
Not knowing what Xavier was up to, Winnie could only frown and wait for him silently at the side.
Suddenly, Xavier threw the bottle of medicine aside and leaned toward Winnie.
He wrapped one of his hands around her waist and held the back of her head with the other.
As Xavier leaned closer, Winnie widened her eyes and shouted, “What are you doing?”
In response, Xavier gave her a ferocious kiss laced with a hint of bitterness.
Only when they were about to suffocate did Xavier release Winnie.
Winnie gasped for air and scolded in a slightly hoarse voice, “Do you know what you’re doing? Can you put out the fire that you’ve caused?”
Xavier did not expect Winnie to respond as such. He found it amusing but managed to hold back his laughter.
Then, he frowned and deliberately put on a stoic expression as though he was chaste.
“Oh? What do you mean by fire, Dr. Garland? Can any of your body parts be on fire?” Xavier tightened his arms around Winnie as he spoke.
Winnie rolled her eyes at him. “Are you aware I’m Dr. Garland now? What was on your mind when you kissed me? Didn’t you say you wouldn’t lay a finger on any women except your wife?”
Wrapping his arms around Winnie’s waist tightly, Xavier responded in a deep voice, “Yes, I love my wife. I didn’t want to betray her, but you’ve been seducing me again and again. What’s worse, you always stopped halfway when you almost succeeded. How can anyone resist it? You know I can’t touch my wife because she’s a dumbo. But I’m a young man in my prime, after all. Do you know you’re like a fatal spell that allures me? I’ll feel uncomfortable and get mad if you don’t see me for a day. What should I do, Dr. Garland? I seem to have been poisoned, and you’re my only antidote. Why don’t you show me mercy and save me?”
Winnie increasingly thought that something was wrong as she listened to Xavier.
Judging from his voice and expression, Xavier seems to be flirting with me instead of talking to me nicely.
Frowning deeply, Winnie grasped Xavier’s neck. “Something is wrong with you, you b*stard!”
She was a little hard, but it did not make Xavier feel uncomfortable.
Xavier chuckled. “Oh? What is wrong with me, Dumbo?”
Winnie understood everything the moment she heard the word Dumbo.
“D*mn you, Xavier! You’ve been fooling me, haven’t you? You even called me Dr. Garland when in fact you knew who I was all this while, didn’t you?”
