“What’s wrong?” He noticed that Winnie was zooming into the photo sent by Nate and asked, “Isn’t this Uncle Stuart’s back? What is wrong with him?”
“There’s nothing wrong with your Uncle Stuart’s back. I’m not looking at him,” Winnie explained. She showed the zoomed-in part of the photo to Xavier. “Take a look at this person. Isn’t she Granny?”
Xavier zoomed out a little bit before answering, “Her physique does resemble your granny. However, she’s too far away. Even if we zoomed in, we can’t be sure it’s her.”
“Yes.” Winnie’s brows scrunched up. “But this person resembles her a lot. Let me call her. If this is her, then why was she at the airport?”
Winnie exited the chat and clicked into her contacts.
Before she could scroll down, Xavier handed the phone he was holding to her.
“You got the wrong phone. This is yours. I don’t think Granny’s phone number is saved in my phone,” Xavier reminded her.
“Oh, I forgot we took each other’s phones by mistake. It’s fine, though. I have memorized Granny’s phone number.”
Winnie couldn’t be bothered to get her phone back and immediately dialed Jacinta’s number.
The call got through in just a few rings.
Jacinta seemed to be in a quiet place. She sounded delighted to receive Winnie’s call.
“Hello, Winnie. Why are you calling me at this hour? It should be nighttime where you are. Why are you not in bed yet?”
As there wasn’t any noise on the other end of the line, Winnie knew that the person Nate caught on camera wasn’t Jacinta.
She chuckled and replied, “I’m still awake. My flight will take off tonight. If there isn’t any delay, I should be back by tomorrow evening.”
“You’re coming back? Oh, that’s great!” Jacinta sounded elated. “Is it evening time locally? Or evening time in Yartran? Tell me what you want to eat so I can get the ingredients ahead.”
“Anything will do. I was talking about Chanaea’s evening time. Just wait for me at home.”
“Sure. I’ll prepare a few of your favorite dishes, then.”
“You should prepare some that you like, too…” Winnie chatted briefly with Jacinta before hanging up.
After that, she returned the phone to Xavier and relaxed. “So? Have you saved your fingerprint? You can unlock my phone now.”
“Yes.” Xavier used Winnie’s phone to make a demonstration. “Now, your phone will welcome me with open arms anytime.”
Winnie gaped. “That sounded like a filthy joke, but I don’t have evidence to prove it.”
Xavier chuckled. “I didn’t mean anything. You were the one who had the filthy thought. How did it go? Did you confirm Granny wasn’t at the airport?”
“Yes.” Winnie bobbed her head. “She’s at home. The person Nate caught on camera just resembled her, that’s all. Many people resemble each other in this world, anyway.”
Xavier chuckled lightly and didn’t respond. He zoomed in on the photo and observed it carefully.
I still think this person looks like Jacinta. She is Winnie’s granny, so Winnie will trust her if she doesn’t say anything contradictory.
Even though Winnie trusted Jacinta, that didn’t mean Xavier shared her sentiments.
Hence, he said nothing after returning to Winnie’s side.
…
When the plane landed at Avenport International Airport, it was already the following afternoon in Chanaea.
After getting off the plane, Xavier immediately received a call from Rufus.
Rufus got to know last night that Winnie and Xavier were coming home today, so he called them to invite them to dinner.
However, Xavier knew that even if Winnie followed him back to the Fairchild residence to have dinner with Rufus, she would still return to Aqua Moana to keep Jacinta company later at night.
She was exhausted after spending over ten hours on the plane. As he didn’t want her to travel around and get more tired, he promptly rejected Rufus’ invitation.
Seeing how thoughtful he was, Winnie gave him a kiss as a reward. “Come back to Aqua Moana with me.”
Xavier’s lips curled as he ruffled Winnie’s hair. “Not today. I’m afraid I’ll ruin Granny’s good mood if I appear before her. I’ll drop you off downstairs and return to the company.”
“Do you have to work today?”
“Yes. I’ve been working in Yartran, too. Today, I’m going to work in my office.”
“You’re too busy.” Winnie sighed. “I don’t think I’ve ever seen you take a break from work.”
“I have no choice.” Xavier raised his brow. “Before getting to know you, I was in a coma for a year. I got enough rest back then.”
