Amara POV
One week Later.
“This traffic is bullshit” I shrieked on my way to work. Dad wanted to retire and asked me to help Ryland run things at work and was showing me the ropes.
“Calm down love,” Emery tells me. I have been on edge for the last week, no matter where we looked she was gone, we had no name nothing to go by and my visions were not helping because she is my mate and was immune to me. I let out a breath trying to calm myself and finally traffic started moving again. I honk my horn when it suddenly breaks again making us come to a stop. It took us thirty minutes in traffic to get to the office. Pulling into the underground carpark I wait for the boomgate to lift when I am thrown forward in my seat before hearing the sound of metal on metal.
“What the fuck” I scream annoyed that someone just rear ended me. I pull into the parking lot and park before getting out in my raging glory to kill the bastard that smashed into me.
“I am so sorry, I hit the wrong pedal, I have insurance” Comes a frantic voice I never thought I would hear again. Emery climbs out of the car also irritated, the girl rummaging through her bag looking for her wallet.
I look at the back of Mercedes, the boot all crumpled when I get a whiff of her blood. Looking her over I see a cut across her forehead. She hit us pretty hard considering we were standing still and my back end of my car was destroyed. I fight the urge rolling over me wanting to feed on her, ah she smelt devine enticing all my senses.
“Ma’am?” I hear her voice snapping me back to my surroundings.
“Um yes” I ask, trying to make sense of what is going on.
“My ID, I should call a tow truck” She says looking at her watch before looking up at my fathers building doors.
“Don’t worry about it, it's just a scratch” Emery tells her and she looks at him like he just grew two heads before pointing to the back of the car.
“That’s more than a scratch, I promise I have my insurance card here somewhere” She says rummaging through her wallet.
I looked at my poor car, it was going to be a ride off, she definitely bent the chassis. She handed me her ID and I was excited to learn this woman’s name. “Seriously don’t worry about, Mia” I tell her with my eyes glancing at her ID. I smile at her and she glances at her watch on her wrist completely oblivious to me and Emery trying our hardest not to claim her and drag her away with us.
“You have somewhere to be?” I ask her and she glances at me nervously.
“It's fine I am already late, we will get this sorted first and maybe they will be ok with me being late once I explain I ruined your car, do you work here?” She asks, looking at the building doors leading into the foyer.
“Kind of” I tell her not wanting to tell her my father owns it, she would probably freak the hell out.
“I haven't seen you here before though” I tell her and she shakes her head.
“No, I am here for an interview which was supposed to start 15 minutes ago” She says with a sigh glancing at her watch.
“Tech floor?” I ask her and she shakes her head.
“No, secretarial position for” She rummaged through her bag before pulling out a card. “Mr Madden and Mr Kane” She says, looking at the card and squinting a bit.
“Sorry, I should have brought my glasses, apparently they are retiring and their secretary quit and new owners are taking over, the recruitment place sent me over” She says with a sigh before she looks at me, she scrutinizes my face for a second before realisation dawns on her.
“You’re the lady from the grocer, I am so sorry about my nephew, did you manage to get the chocolate off them” She asks and I could practically see the cogs turning in that pretty head of hers.
“Yes” I lied, I had to chuck them out, nothing was getting those stains out. Emery chuckles at my lie and her attention goes to him, her eyes roaming up and down him before she turns back to me.
“Well the car can wait, let's get you to your job interview” I tell her, draping my arm over her shoulder and tugging her toward the doors.
“I highly doubt they will even look at my application now, I am 20 minutes late and counting” She mumbles. Emery grabs her handbag from her draping it over his shoulder before looping his arm through hers.
“Stranger things have happened, besides Amara knows the boss pretty well” Emery tells her and I try to stop the devious smile threatening to upturn my lips. Dad wants to retire. I am suddenly all for it now, shit I will even come in on weekends just so I can be near her.
“Are you sure?” She says looking nervously back at my ruined car. Emery pushes the door open before hitting the button on the elevator.
“I am so sorry I hit you, and my nephew ruined your pants, what are the chances I ruin your day twice” She chuckles. Little did she know she just made mine and Emmery’s day, because we found her, we found our mate.
“Nope my day just got even better” Emery chuckles. She looks at him like he is absurd.
“I ruined your car” She says, her face heating with embarrassment.
“Car can be replaced” I tell her before grabbing a tissue and dabbing at the cut on her forehead. She hisses before touching it with her fingers and pulling her hand back.
“Great, about to have an interview with a vampire and I am bleeding” She says, “Poor form” I hear her mutter as she looks at her shoulder before looking at Emery who had her bag. I don't think she realised he had it when she suddenly stepped away from us looking at us and only just realising we both had our hands on her.
“Can I have my bag please?” She says and I could hear her heart beating frantically in her chest.
“Oh right sorry” He says handing it to her. She grabs a small compact mirror out before cleaning up the cut and dabbing foundation on it.
“We will show you where to go, I will speak to the bosses for you” I tell her and she nods anxiously before stepping away and I didn’t even realise I had stepped closer to her. She stands facing us next to the doors and I suddenly realise our closeness was creeping her out. She hops from one foot to the other and I could see Emery’s hands twitching, wanting to touch her just like mine were. The door bings and she jumps slightly.
The elevator doors opened onto my fathers office floors. Ryland was looking at the foyer desk trying to find something. The last secretary left everything in shambles.
Ryland turns around when he hears the door.
“You're late” He says to me and I quickly step forward before she thinks he is talking to her.
“Car accident” I tell him and he nods looking back at the desk before his head whips back to me.
“Car accident?”
“Yes, Theo in his office?” I ask him and he scrunches his face at my words before nodding.
I grab her hand and she gasps, jerking her hand away looking at it oddly before I grab it again, loving the sparks rushing up my arm. I drag her to my fathers office and see both of them looking at paperwork on their desks.
“Hey sweetie” My father says coming over to me and stopping when he sees me pull Mia in behind me.
“Sweetie?” She questions. I ignored her question, she would find out any minute.
“Found your new secretary” I tell them before pulling out the chair at the desk. I push her down in it and my father raises an eyebrow at me.
Tobias POV
“Where the hell is Amara?” I ask Theo, annoyed. She was always late.
“She will be here, I am more concerned with this secretary situation. No one is even applying for the job not wanting to work under a tribrid and a werewolf” Theo tells me. I nod he was right, the city was scared since Thaddeus and we organised a recruitment office to hire someone but even this new person was a no show.
“Don’t, Imogen won’t, why would we retire and her go back to work, forget about it” Theo tells me. We may not have a choice though, especially if Amara couldn’t pull herself together and actually start showing up. Ryland can’t run this place on his own and Thaddeus was out of the question at the moment.
“Stress less, we will figure it out” Theo tells me, coming over and resting his chin on my shoulder, his lips pressing to my cheek, I exhale trying to calm my nerves but I was tired, I needed a break and that wasn’t going to happen at this rate.
Hearing the elevator bing, Theo stands up. “That would be Amara,” He says when the door suddenly opens.
“Hey sweetie” He says going to give her a hug before she tugs some girl in with her. The poor thing looked petrified.
“Sweetie?” The girl questions looking at Amara. Who seemed to be ecstatic about something as she pulled out a chair and shoved the girl in it.
“Found your new secretary” She says and the girl looks up at her. Emery comes in sitting on the armchair in the corner of the room. I gave him a nod, at least he was getting Amara to show up, I will give him that.
Theo was observing the girl who looked like a deer in headlights, his eyes flickering oddly before I picked up the faint scent of blood.
“This is the girl from the recruitment” Amara says while we all just stare at her. She seems to snap out of whatever trance she was in, shaking her head and holding her hand out to me.
“I’m sorry I am late, I accidentally hit” She stops and looks at Amara.
“Sorry, what is your name again?” She asks.
“Amara, and that is Emery” She says pointing to him. He gives her a wave. She shivers looking back at me.
“This is Mia, and you are hiring her” Amara tells me and I fold my arms across my chest. Looking down at my daughter while the small blonde haired girl looks like she was hoping the floor would swallow her, her cheeks flushing red.
“Have you got your resume?” I ask her, she seems to think for a second.
“Ah yes sorry, it is um” She pulls it out before i could even grab it, Amara snatches it from her hand.
“Yep good enough for me” Amara announces while the girl was trying to figure out what the hell was going on, so was I. Theo chuckles, shaking his head making me raise an eyebrow at him.
“I’m sorry, I have been saying that a lot today but who are you?” The girl asks, looking at Amara clearly startled with the way Amara was just handing her the job that wasn’t hers to hand out.
“We are her fathers” I tell this Mia before recognition hits her. Her lips parting in shock.
“Wait, your?” She says trying to find the right words.
