Chapter 488
Among friends, it would be considered normal if their arms were wrapped around each other in a photo, but it wouldn’t be if they were kissing.
There was no way I could believe there was nothing going on between Eric and Beverly.
Indeed, a man’s words were unreliable. Just a few hours ago he said there was nothing going on between them, but fast forward to a few hours later and now I discovered a picture of them kissing. How foolish he looked now with everything he’d said before.
Fortunately, I didn’t completely believe his words, so I put the photo back in the book and put the book in its place on the mat without giving any sign of having seen something I shouldn’t have seen.
My initial curiosity about his room evaporated after this accidental discovery, so I turned to Eric on the couch. “I’m going back to my room to pack.”
Instead of stopping me, he followed me into my room and I started to pack my clothes, along with the souvenirs I bought the day before.
As he watched me pack, he saw me putting the gifts in the suitcase, took them out and asked, ‘Who are they for?’
‘These are for my father, my mother, Mrs. Fant, Dylan and Isabella, respectively.’
‘Why are you buying Dylan so many gifts?’
‘It is not much. It’s just a knife, a watch, a key chain and also a lighter.’
‘Isn’t that considered a lot?’
‘Dylan brings me lots of gifts every time he travels; much more than I’m giving him now. Since I don’t travel that often, I have to bring something for him too.’
‘Given his petty personality, I didn’t expect you to give him a watch worth several hundred thousand,’ he said, the distaste in his voice hard to miss. ‘You still owe me, but do you have the money to buy another man a wristwatch?’
‘Okay, so you can keep this watch as my payment to you.’
‘A gift and a loan are two different things. Why do you make it sound like I’m here to collect a debt?
– Forget it if you don’t want to. In fact, I don’t want to give it to you anyway. Taking the watch back, I put it in the suitcase.
Dissatisfied with my response, he continued, ‘You’re playing favorites, Lilian Hawkins. Why didn’t you give me a present?
‘Can’t you get one for yourself since you’re already here?’
‘No, I want a gift from you. This keychain looks good so I’ll keep it.’ Then, he reached out and took the key chain.
Did he really settle for such an inexpensive item? Well, whatever.
Soon, my suitcase was packed and he reluctantly hugged me from behind. ‘Lilian, I can’t bear to see you leave alone. How about staying here with me for
a few more days? Just two more days.
‘No. I miss my parents and I am very worried because my father is not well.’
Sighing, he admitted. ‘All good. I instructed someone to book a ticket for a flight tomorrow morning.
With a sigh of relief, I said thank you. ‘Thanks.’
‘You’re welcome, but no need to thank me.’ Placing his hands on my waist, he continued, ‘Don’t forget about me when you get back. Also, remember to call me, okay?
‘Why don’t you call me instead?’ I fired back.
