Chapter 188 Alex Is A Suspected Rapist 

“This is Alex!” Jacob said immediately, pointing at Alex. Jacob breathed a sigh of relief. The police could do whatever they wanted with Alex so long it did not trouble his family. 

Ever since Jacob tricked and scammed Kate, he had been living in worry that one day Kate would appear to get her revenge on him. 

“You’re Alex Jefferson?” The policeman asked. 

“I am.” Alex nodded his head indifferently. 

“I’m going to need you to come with us to assist on an investigation,” the policeman said. They proceeded to lead Alex out without another word. 

Seeing Alex being taken away, the crowd let out a sigh of relief. 

“Oh dear, Aunt Carmen,” Jacob mocked loudly, “I’m afraid your live–in son–in–law got himself into trouble with the law this time. I saw a news report two days ago that a woman was stalked by an unknown man. He assaulted her and then raped her. Who knows? Maybe Alex is that unknown man.” 

“Of course, why else would the police detain him?” 

“Exactly! He’s nothing but a useless junk who feeds off scraps. Why would they take him away unless he 

did commit such a grave crime?” 

“It’s a shame, really. The fellow always looked very honest. Who would have expected him to do something so horrible and disgusting?” 

Whispers raced through the crowd as everyone hurried to put their two cents into the discussion. Nobody explicitly mentioned the Jennings family in this case, but the Jennings‘ all felt the building shame and embarrassment Alex had brought onto them. 

“Granny, Alex had just tarnished our family’s name thanks to his actions,” Jacob said suddenly. It had occurred to him that this was the perfect chance to finally get rid of Heather and her family. The opportunity was too appealing to pass over. He suggested, “Why don’t we just cast him and his family out of the Jennings family? It will prevent anyone from making fun of our family too.” 

“Yeah, Granny,” Lucy agreed. “Not only is Alex a crook, but he’s also now guilty of being a rapist! If we don’t expel his entire family, us Jennings‘ are going to be the laughing stock of the town forever.” 

Demi’s face looked thunderous by now. Anyone who knew her understood very well that the old lady concerned about the Jennings family name more than anything else. 

She levelled a cold look at Carmen and Lucas, saying, “Have you got anything else to say for yourselves?” 

“Mother, that’s Alex’s fault and it has nothing to do with us!” Carmen shouted, but her voice was wavering. If they were banished from the family, it would be a debt Carmen could never repay to her dead husband. If the news of them being struck from the family records made it out to the public, her son and daughter 

would be targeted for an endless cycle of scorn and ridicule. 

“Granny,” Lucas pleaded with the old lady. “Please! We’ll kick that useless scum out of our home immediately and make sure he never returns!” 

Jacob just made a scornful sound. “The police have already taken him away and he’s going to be rotting in jail soon. How can he even return back to your home?”
