“You useless scum, what are you talking about? Do you have a death wish, huh?” Jacob growled, raising a hand to hit Alex. 

Alex caught his wrist and held it firmly as Jacob struggled to break free from his grip. 

“Sometimes, I really do wonder how your sense of logic functions,” Alex said in disdain. “If I give Harper a normal watch, it means that she’s a whore. So if Henry gives her a branded watch, does it mean that she’s a super whore?” 

This family was impossible to deal with. 

Initially, Alex had no intention of buying her a present at all. It was upon Heather’s insistence afterwards that he simply picked out a gift from a nearby watch stall. 

The watch looked like it was worth only about thirty. Seeing Alex coming in a luxury car, the storekeeper proceeded to call a price of hundred at once. Alex didn’t bother to haggle with the storekeeper either. If he did then he would probably be able to save at least forty or so. 

“You think you can compare to Henry? Why don’t you take a closer look at the trash you’ve given me? I can’t believe you actually have the gall to show up with it!” Harper shrilled loudly while glaring at Alex. She flashed the luxury watch glittering on her wrist at him. “Look at this! Now this is a fifty thousand watch! Can you afford it? Get out of my sight with this piece of trash!” 

The attendees could only sigh in admiration when they saw Harper’s branded watch. 

These days, the Hale family was much more influential in Nebula City than the Jennings family. As such, Harper marrying into the Hale family was seen as bringing honor and glory to their family. Henry Hale would make a wonderful son–in–law.

And yet, Alex was also a son–in–law of the Jennings family. But there was no competition. 

Henry was the son of the Hale family, while Alex was the live–in son–in–law feeding off scraps from the Jennings family. Honestly, it was just embarrassing to watch. 

“Who is causing such a commotion? Have you no respect for any of our traditions?” A strident voice asked. It belonged to an elderly but dignified lady who was currently walking over with a frown on her face. It was Demi Jennings, matriarch of the Jennings family.

“Mrs. Jennings!” 

The Jennings‘ in the crowd all approached the old lady and greeted her respectfully. 

Demi glared sternly at the crowd. “Today is Harper’s big day. Why is there a ruckus? Do you all want the Jennings family to become the joke of the town?” 

“Granny!” Jacob latched onto the old woman immediately and said pitifully, “Today is my baby sister, Harper’s big day and everyone was happy until Alex showed up and implied Harper is cheap. Isn’t that the biggest joke anyone can make about us Jennings‘?” 

A frown clouded Demi’s face instantly. It was more than evident that the comment had struck her anger

Out of so many of her grandchildren, only Harper was capable of bringing honor to the Jennings family thus far. 

Currently, the Jennings family only owned 39% of shares in Jennings Inc. In other words, Jennings Inc. was no longer under the control of the Jennings‘. The head of the family had been thinking of selling off their remaining stocks and start up a new business venture.
