At Queeny’s words, Irvin's clean face went red.
He hesitated, afraid to admit or deny.
He was afraid that if he made a mistake, Martha would become angry and leave.
Then they really wouldn’t be friends anymore.
So he was a little alarmed to hear Queeny speak out.
He turned quickly to Martha and saw that there was no sign of anger on her face. Instead, she smiled slyly at him.
“I see! I wouldn't have known if Queeny hadn't said it."
Irvin smiled with secret relief when he realized she wasn't angry. “Martha, I... I didn't give it to you because I wanted to chase you, I, I just think you’re really nice, and you’re too good for the best things, I...”
As he spoke, he could have bitten his tongue off.
He was usually a smooth talker, but why did he stutter when it mattered?
What a fool!
Seeing him in such a hurry, Martha couldn't help laughing.
“Well, I know what you're thinking.”
She paused, mustered a smile on her face and said, “I didn't say anything to you. What’s the hurry? It’s up to you.”
Then she turned her head away from him.
Irvin was stunned.
He didn't quite understand what she meant.
Seeing this, Queeny thought to himself, how could he, normally such a smart man, look like a nerd at such a critical time?
She quickly and quietly nudged his arm with her elbow, and when he looked over, she gave him a hint with her eyes.
Irvin and Queeny, after all, had known each other for a long time. It was just a look, and he knew immediately what she meant.
A rush of joy rushed over him.
Up to him? Did that mean she didn't turn him down?
Was it just that he was still on probation because they’ve only just met?
And he had a chance!
Irvin felt very happy, as if he had been reassured, and naturally calmed down and straightened himself up.
After a moment, he could not help leaning over Martha and said, “You can rest assured, I will do my best.”
Martha did not say anything.
But it was clear from Queeny's point of view that she was smiling happily.
She nodded. Martha didn't seem totally uninterested in Irvin after all.
They were perfect for each other.
Queeny sighed, turned her head, sat up straight, and set her eyes on the stage.
The pair of jade bracelets just on the stage have been sold.
It was not low, but it was not too high either. Sixteen million for a pair of jade bracelets. The buyer was probably not only interested in the color, but also the story behind the bracelet.
As she watched calmly, a hand reached out from her side.
She felt nervous and started to draw back, but he was quicker than she was and had her hand in his.
Queeny frowned, turned to Felix, and mouthed, “What?”
Felix didn't look very good.
If she looked closely, she could see a hint of grievance in those deep, penetrating eyes.
Queeny was more confused.
What was he aggrieved at?
