Despite Jeff’s explanation, Shimon was still in doubt.
After all, he had only read about things like qigong in ancient books. Since when it was real?
With his eyes on Jeff, Shimon took a huge gulp.
It took a while before he asked, “Is what you said earlier true? That you’re really...”
Jeff darted him an indifferent look.
Just by the look he was given, Shimon was unable to continue his question.
Shimon had no idea how, if Jeff was indeed Jefferson, the man had managed to maintain his youth even though he had lived for hundreds of years.
Nor was he aware of what was going through Jeff’s mind.
Jeff was not going to let him find out.
He uttered in a gruff voice, “I called you here today and made myself known to you because I trust you. There’s also an important errand that I want to leave in your hands. I’d only be at ease if you handle it. Do you understand?”
Shimon stiffly nodded.
“Do tell.”
“Gregory and the rest are looking for the Arcane Jade but I don’t trust them so I want you near them. You are to hand over a piece to me every time they find one and once they are on the last piece, you have to steal it before the transaction happens between us. Do you understand what I mean?”
Shimon was dumbfounded.
He looked at him with unfathomable eyes.
Shimon was almost shrieking. “How can possibly I do that?”
The man opposite him immediately pulled a long face.
Conscious that he was out of line, Shimon changed his story. “What I mean is this-this can prove to be difficult. Everyone knows that I’m of the Flinders family and you made the deal with him. He’ll surely be suspicious of me if I were to go along with them. He won’t trust me and would definitely keep his guard up against me. How can I possibly steal the item?”
Jeff smiled. “Don’t worry. You just need to go over and I will give you a hand then, providing you with an opening to steal it.”
By now, the tone of his voice carried elements of displeasure.
Shimon froze, unable to find the right words to answer.
In his mind, he had the urge to mention that Gregory and Vickie were only after the medicine. Since the Flinders family were in possession of the drug, why couldn’t they honor the transaction and hand the medicine supply to them?
Why must they go back on their word and play Gregory and Vickie for fools?
Yet, he did not have the courage to bring up such thoughts.
Even if Shimon were to say the words out loud, the duo in front of him were not going to listen to him.
He might even be at the end of a severe punishment for that.
Hence, Shimon hung his head low, demonstrating a silent refusal.
Keeping his cool, Jeff took a sip of tea before faintly adding. “You might think that it’s despicable of me to do so but know this, it is the survival of the fittest in this world. Vickie’s father once betrayed me but the fact that I didn’t blame it on her is the mercy I’ve given her. There’s no way I’d help her to continue to live. It’s not as though there will always be a constant supply of medicine. The whole family will have less to live with if I were to give it to her. I can’t allow my family to live a shorter lifespan because of a traitor. Do you get my drift?”
Without the guts to refute, Shimon nodded.
Jeff happily responded. “Alright, now hand over the stuff.”
He extended his arm.
Shimon was reluctant.
He would have turned over the jade to them without hesitation if it was earlier.
However, for some reason, it left a bad taste in his mouth, reflecting upon Jeff’s statement.
Shimon was aware that he himself was no gentleman and had no virtuous qualities to speak of.
