The wooden box was simple in design and did not look as though it was splurged on. The texture was light in the hand, unlike high grade rosewood or sandalwood.
However, the voice coming from inside the box left everyone in horror and having a hair-raising moment.
Jeff pulled a dirty look.
As smart and scheming as he could be, Jeff was still restricted by his upbringing. His mindset was stuck on toying with feelings and heartstrings, while modern day technology was not his forte. He only picked up a smattering of the basics.
It could also be said that although Jeff had a general idea of technology, he subconsciously rejected stuff that he was unfamiliar with.
Moreover, he often lived in seclusion on an island. The outside world was unaware of his existence, let alone able to plot against him with these things.
Jeff was caught off guard because he was actually taken in by such a thing out of nowhere.
The voice inside continued.
“Since Mr. Jeff Flinders isn’t interested in the partnership, why don’t we just put the cards on the table?”
Jeff clenched his teeth.
He turned and tipped his head at Louis.
Getting the hint, Louis came forth and picked up the box. He opened it and began a closer examination.
Jeff may be unfamiliar with modern-day technology but Louis was no stranger.
Soon, he found something tiny, the size of a pinhole, at the opening of the box.
Louis retrieved the item from the box and carefully studied it in his hand.
During the inspection, he heard a sudden chuckle coming from it.
“Don’t bother looking. I’m not afraid to tell you that this is the latest spy camera developed by a friend of mine. The diameter is less than 5mm. Not only can I hear your voices and conversation, I can even see your faces.
Color drained from the trio’s complexion.
Although Shimon was conscious that he was made use of, he was not the least bit angry.
Furious out of humiliation, Louis sternly chided, “Gregory Graham, how dare you make a fool out of us? I guess you must think nothing of your life!”
Gregory coldly scoffed. “Don’t talk to me like you were going to play nice with us if I didn’t pull a fast one on you.”
“You!”
Louis choked on his words.
It never occurred to him that Gregory would still have his sharp tongue at a time like this.
Following a brief moment of silence, Jeff gathered himself.
As an old geezer that lived up to a millennium, he definitely had incomparable composure.
Giving an aloof look at the almost negligibly tiny black item, Jeff coldly blurted, “What do you want?”
“Give me the Money Bead and I’ll hand over the real Arcane Jade.”
Jeff smirked. “So you know about the secret of the Money Bead. If that’s the case, I’m not afraid to tell you that I can’t give you that. You can’t sustain its life even if I provide you one, so it’s best you give that thought a rest.”
Gregory was unfazed.
“Oh? Don’t even think about getting that piece of Arcane Jade if that’s the case. We can all go down together.”
The fury Jeff had barely managed put out reignited at these words.
“Gregory Graham! Aren’t you afraid that your beloved woman will die because of this?”
“Sure, I’m afraid.” Gregory answered without a second thought. “Hence the reason why I agreed to seek the Arcane Jade for you and was willing to do your bidding. However, this was all built on the basis that you sincerely wanted to cooperate with me. I sacrificed a lot just so V could live and now I’m aware that you had no intention to cooperate, nor do you want to save V. Since we all have to die anyway, why don’t I choose a simpler death? At least we won’t be bored in hell with Mr. Jeff Flinders accompanying us.”
Jeff’s knuckles clicked from clenching so hard.
Of course he could tell that Gregory was threatening him.
Not only was Gregory threatening him with the Arcane Jade, the former was after his life.
Gregory was saying that he would not remain alive if Vickie really met her end.
Since he was not going to live, he was taking down Jeff along with him.
