Cathy stood up. “Come on, let’s go back to the front hall. We shouldn’t let Mr. Leith wait for too long. After all, he is the charming man who had you completely smitten.”
Judging from Cathy’s sarcastic tone, Nell could tell that her mother had not let down her guard about Gideon.
However, she did not mind. As the saying goes, time reveals it all.
It was quite normal for her mother to feel that way about Gideon since they had not gotten to know each other yet.
She would slowly understand it soon.
As she thought of this, she got up and nodded her head with a smile plastered across her face.
The two of them walked to the front hall together.
In the hall, Gideon was playing games with Lizzy and Little Viemond.
It was true that whenever the children were around, there was not a single dull moment.
Nell walked over awkwardly. Raising his head, Gideon looked somewhat unaffected by what had happened as he glanced at her. “You’re done?”
Nell nodded her head.
Cathy smiled. “Are you guys hungry? If you are, I’ll get the chefs to cook up a meal so that we can have an early dinner. We don’t really have to wait for Sean to get back.”
Nell shook her head as Gideon added on, “Don’t worry, there’s no rush. Besides, it won’t be too late for dinner by the time Mr. Miller gets back. If you don’t mind, I would like to take a tour around the chateau to check out the scenery. Is it okay if I bring Nelly along? ”
Cathy nodded her head.
“Sure! Do you want me to lead the way?”
“It’s fine. We’ll go for a walk on our own. Would it be too much to ask for you to look after the kids for a while?”
Cathy cast a glance at the two children.
Although she did not like the fact that Lizzy was not Nell’s child by birth, she decided to put it aside. This was something between the adults, and it should remain that way.
She had nothing much against the children. After all, she was not Nell’s birth mother too, yet their bond was much stronger than those bound by blood.
She was just worried that Nell would follow in her footsteps. She did not want Nell to be cheated on just like how Shaun Jennings lied to her.
As she thought about the bond she shared with Nell, Cathy started to become fond of Lizzy.
Hence, she let out a warm smile. “No problem.”
Upon saying that, she walked up to the two children with a smile and said, “I heard you have a playground at home. Well, I have one here too! Do you want Grandma to bring you there?”
Kids would always be kids, no matter how old they were.
So when the children heard that they were going to a playground, they clapped their hands together, cheering.
“Yay! We’re going to the playground!”
Then, Cathy personally brought them to the playground.
Seeing that they had left, Gideon and Nell walked out of the main door.
The chateau was larger than the one Gregory owned back in Lin City.
It was also surrounded by wonderful scenery.
Nell used to fret on whether her mother had been living comfortably in the chateau all these years. Though now that she realized how well-maintained and beautiful it was, all her worries began to disappear.
She thought to herself about what a great person Sean Miller was. Every person who had crossed paths with Cathy had probably let her down in a way, but not Sean. He gave her the best she could ever ask for.
Although she did not know how they met, you could see Sean’s affection for Cathy with just one glance.
This somehow explained why Cathy trusted Sean so much. If not, how could she place so much trust in him when she did not trust the people around her?
The couple walked along the marble-stone-carved pavement in a relaxed manner. They did not feel hot at all since the chateau was well-equipped with air conditioners.
Surrounded by large trees, branches spread out aimlessly into the air as the leaves hung shaggy from its limbs, giving them a satisfyingly invigorating feeling
They continued to walk for a while before Nell broke the silence. “Ma was just being anxious when she said that back then. Don’t take it to heart. She doesn’t know half of what we’ve gone through.”
Gideon turned and looked at her with a half-smile.
