Nell and Gideon took two whole hours to finish touring the chateau.
While they were casually exploring the area, they noticed that quite a lot of servants worked there.
They all had the same dialect. Although they did not understand what Nell was trying to say, they remained kind and friendly to her.
The place was so big that the couple lost their way around, only to find themselves back at the front hall of the chateau after a while.
By the time they made their way back, it was already past 6:00 pm.
Sean had already returned from the lab. Upon seeing them, he told the servants to notify Cathy and the children to get prepared for dinner.
Full of smiles, Nell asked Sean about his day. Unsurprisingly, the way he spoke to them now was much more gentle than before.
Dinner naturally consisted mainly of local cuisines.
Lizzy and Little Viemond had been playing with Cathy for quite a while as she started to get used to their company.
During dinner, Sean noticed how Cathy’s face lit up when the two children called her grandma.
Seeing her so elated made him feel happy.
Even the way she looked at them was as if they were precious treasures.
She showered them with mountains of gifts, and as soon as she found out that Lizzy was prone to falling sick, she immediately made a home remedy for her granddaughter. As medicine was known to be bitter, Cathy took the effort to add on some natural sweeteners into the remedy.
Lizzy felt that they were overreacting yet she kept it to herself.
When they were done with dinner, Sean suddenly thought of the Money Bead plant that Vicky had given him, which was sitting in his backyard. So he invited them to have a look at it.
When they arrived, they saw that the plant was left to grow in a chilly room by the backyard. It was surrounded by iced walls but the roof was a transparent glass, which seemed like it had been specially crafted for heat insulation purposes.
This way, the sun would be able to shed warmth on the plant without destroying it with its heat.
Sean probably had the glass room renovated after he learned from Jeff Flinders that Money Beads were best suited for damp and cold locations. Still, it seemed both an absurd and ingenious way to grow the plant this way.
Nell and Gideon were both impressed at the lengths Sean took to preserve the plant.
Stored in a container, the plant was further placed in a pot made of jade. Obviously, it was gifted by Gregory.
The pot was partially filled with water and a jade pole stood out in the middle as the Money Bead’s trunk twirled around it.
Sean said, “I can only do so much to preserve the plant. Whether it grows or not is yet another problem.”
Nell nodded her head.
“How confident are you to preserve the plant, Uncle Miller?”
Sean looked at her and pressed his eyebrows into a slight crease. “To be honest, not so much.”
Nell was shocked to hear this.
Sean lowered his voice and said, “I heard that this is a delicate plant. I’m no botanist but I’m trying my best to care for it by following the advice you guys gave me the last time. As you still retained part of the Arcade Jade from him, so did Jeff Flinders. It’s normal that he decided to hold back more information on how to grow this tree.
“But you don’t have to worry about me anyway. I’ve got a friend who specializes in this aspect and I gave him a call a few days ago. He promised to come over whenever he has the time so that we can research this plant more. Perhaps he has a way to make this work.”
Only then did Nell huff in relief.
After observing the Money Bead plant, Sean brought them to his herb garden.
Nell had heard about his reputation as a skillful doctor before, but she has not talked about his career with him before.
She now knew that he was not just a doctor who specializes in Western medicine but he practiced Chinese medicine too.
Curious, Nell waited for the garden tour to end. When she sat down on the couch in the living room, she could not resist but ask, “Uncle Sean, judging from the fact that you’re quite skilled in Chinese medicine, are you Chinese?”
Sean did not hide the truth as he nodded his head. “Yes.”
“How did you come here then? Are you currently hiding out here?”
