There was no way Gideon was going to let go.
He knew that the woman’s button was pushed today. One wrong move and it could possibly have a lasting effect on their relationship.
Hence, he swallowed his pride and curried her favor. “Wifey, I was really wrong. In light that it’s my first offense, can you look past it?”
Nell chuckled hypocritically.
Gideon was filled with grievance.
Seeing that he refused to let go even after a while, Nell helplessly answered, “I can disregard the old madam and Lizzy lying to me. I can be understanding towards the old madam staging a few scenes in an attempt to judge my character. I don’t even mind that she made use of my kindness and trample on my dignity, but!”
She took a deep breath and faced Gideon with solemnity before growling. “I forbid you to do so! It is you who wanted this marriage and you’re the one who said you wanted to be together. Yet, not only did you not stop her, you helped her to keep it from me. I don’t know what it means but I can’t accept it!
“I forgave her because she’s your grandmother. As far as I’m concerned, it doesn’t really matter because a relationship hasn’t been established and it happened in your absence.
“This is why I don’t really care how she sees me but you’re different! I thought that having been together for so long, you’d have understanding of my conduct and what lines to cross. At least, you wouldn’t try anything absurd but I was wrong to think that!
“Do people like you have the habit of thinking less of others? Do you think that you can do as you will standing on higher ground?
“With competence and standing bestowing you a sense of superiority, you, more often than not, neglect the feelings of others. Your suspicion is most important whereas the dignity of others is worth nothing and can be tossed aside!”
With that, the air was filled with dead silence.
Although Nell had lowered her voice, the conversation startled the people behind. The cabin airflow may have muffled her voice, but they could still tell something was amiss by the growing intensity in the air.
An air stewardess approached and respectfully asked “Miss, is there anything I can help you with?”
While speaking, she darted a wary gaze at the man sitting beside Nell.
Gideon, “...”
Realizing that she became a nuisance to others, Nell shook her head to prevent any misunderstanding.
“No, I’m sorry. We’re a couple. We have a disagreement, I’m really sorry to bother you.”
The air stewardess got hold of the situation. With that said, she was at ease and smiled.
“Alright, please call me if you need me.”
Nell nodded and expressed her gratitude while the onlookers turned their attention elsewhere seeing that all was well. The air resumed its calmness.
Gideon held his tongue.
The sullen look on his face and tensing facial muscle had Nell under the impression that he was crossed by her tantrum. However, the loosened grip on her sleeve infuriated her even more. Gideon was the one to blame. How could she possibly pretend that nothing happened?
Hence, she turned away out of spite and ignored him the whole way.
He can be angry all he wants! Who cares?
Despite the reasoning in her head, what was this heavy feeling in her heart?
Nell shut her eyes, trying to brush off the strange grief and distress stirring within.
The pair never shared another word even after the plane landed.
After they got off the plane, Nell got into a car while Gideon quietly followed behind. Sensing the disharmony between them, the driver cautiously enquired, “President, back to Leith Garden?”
Gideon nodded.
Once they were back, Nell headed straight to her room, refusing any interaction with him.
Aunt Joyce knew that they would be home today. She happily welcomed them but was instead greeted by the ghastly look on Nell’s face who made a beeline towards her room without a word. For a moment, Aunt Joyce was confused.
She then took a glance at Gideon who was approaching from behind. Her heart began thumping at the sight of his equally ashen complexion.
Did the couple fight?
What was going on?
Were they not on a holiday? They should be over the moon!
