Realizing that there was no objection from Thomas, Sylvia felt relieved and acknowledged him happily. The two families then began to have lunch.
However, at the same time, the door of the private room was forced open.
Camera flashes went off, followed by numerous reporters who barged in with their cameras and microphones.
“Mr. Morton, I heard that the Morton and the Jennings families have gathered here today to discuss the marriage between you and Celine. Is this true?”
“Has the day of the wedding been confirmed? When is it?”
“As the Young Master of the Mortons and an A-list celebrity, how will your wedding be conducted?”
“I heard both of you have known each other since your younger days and have been together for many years. Could you share your love story with us?”
“...”
Countless voices resounded in the room while the camera shutters snapped repeatedly. Besides, with the constant flicker of bright flashes, it temporarily blinded the eyes of everyone around them.
Instantly, the mood in the private room changed.
When the reporters forced their way into the room, Thomas’s face darkened.
Jason was taken by surprise too. Then, he thought of something and regarded Celine in disbelief.
There was a fleeting look of guilt on Celine’s face. Soon, she hid it and shook her head while looking at Jason anxiously.
“Brother Jay, it wasn’t me, I didn’t do it.”
Sylvia, who sat opposite them, also feigned astonishment, but she calmed down quickly and smiled at the reporters.
“Thank you, everyone, for your concern towards Celine. However, today’s meeting is a private one. Could you please interview us some other time? Today… Isn’t an appropriate day.”
As she spoke, she glanced at Thomas in a troubled manner. The apology and helplessness in her eyes were obvious.
Meanwhile, Thomas maintained his scowl and pretended not to notice her gaze.
Jason finally came back to his senses. Under such circumstances, evasion was futile.
The reporters were already here, and they would never leave without getting the answers they wanted.
So, he stood up and faced the cameras. “As you can see, the Morton and Jennings families are having a meeting today to discuss the upcoming marriage. Although Celine is a celebrity and I can understand if you snap her photos, our parents are outsiders to showbiz. Today’s agenda is very personal and I hope all of you will understand this.
Without a doubt, once we have come to a conclusion, we’ll notify the press as soon as possible. So please be rest assured that we’ll do so.
It’s lunchtime and you’ve been hard at work. Why don’t you head downstairs for a break and get something to eat? I’ll foot the bill.”
Jason’s speech was compassionate, courteous, and gracious. He was neither annoyed because the reporters disrupted his personal agenda nor did he go against his own principles by giving in to the press by revealing more details.
In addition, he announced that he would treat the reporters to lunch and this gesture appeased the latter in the process.
Truly, it was a textbook example of the correct way of reacting to the press.
By observing him, it had filled Sylvia’s heart with glee and excitement.
Celine did have good taste. A man like Jason Morton would definitely assist the Jennings family and help them up the ladder of success!
After listening to Jason’s speech, the reporters refused to say anything else.
Although they still had more questions to ask, it was useless as Jason would not answer them, and bodyguards started to show up. Thus, they had to leave.
Ten minutes or so later, silence and tranquility returned to the private room.
The atmosphere became somewhat awkward.
Thomas sat still without saying a word.
Shaun wanted to speak to lighten up the ambiance. However, he was not too good with words and decided to keep quiet instead, less he made a fool of himself.
