Jason became more disappointed as he watched on.
Stood aside, Celine was deeply apprehensive. Upon seeing the man’s darkened expression, she stepped forward slowly and cautiously said, “Brother Jay, I’m sorry. I didn’t know there’d be so many reporters today.”
He raised his head to look at her and the corners of his lips twitched into a dismayed sardonic smile.
“You really didn’t know?”
Her heart skipped a beat.
When his eyes met her, she felt so exposed that she quickly averted her gaze before nodding slightly.
“I really had no idea. I would have reminded you otherwise.”
“Oh? Really? I thought it was you who informed the reporters to catch me in the act! But it seems like I’ve misunderstood you.”
His words, said in such a deep tone, did not sound convincing to her ears.
For reasons unknown to herself, Celine suddenly felt diffident and afraid. With that, she forced a smile and took a step backward.
“Brother Jay, why will you think that of me? We’re getting married soon. I have no reason to do that.”
“Really? After all, we’re still not married yet. What if I change my mind suddenly? Today’s news could be publicized and it’ll confirm our marriage.
If I really do change my mind someday, then this news will be the sharpest weapon that could be turned against me, not to mention it could exonerate you from the responsibility, making you the victim between us two. It seems to me that this could bring you plenty of advantages.”
Colors immediately drained off her face.
She looked at Jason as if he was a monster.
The man rose to his full height and started walking toward her direction. Each step he took seemed fueled with a calm yet cruel force.
He suddenly extended his arm to strangle her.
“Celine Jennings! It’s evident that you have plotted a scheme against me but you’re still trying to lie! Who do you think I am? A massive fool that you could hoodwink?”
He spat those words through gritted teeth. The force coming from his arm could almost snap the woman’s neck into half.
Flustered, she struggled to pry his fingers from her neck. She staggered several steps backward until her back hit the wall behind the desk.
“Bro… Brother Jay, I can explain…”
Her face looked as read as a ripened tomato. It had taken her a lot of effort to squeeze those words out of her throat.
Jason’s face was dark. Looking at her, he could not wait to tear apart her hypocritical facade.
“Explain? What more can you say? Do you really think I have no idea of the good deeds you have done behind my back all these years? I simply didn’t confront you because of our relationship.
But now that you’re intending to use me! Do you think I’m as stupid as Nell? That I can be controlled by both your mother and you?”
With a flung of his arm, he threw Celine onto the couch.
The woman quickly gasped for air now that she could finally breathe, but she also started to cough uncontrollably and painfully.
However, he looked at her indifferently as if she was a dirty rag.
“From today onwards, we’re done! Tell your snobbish grandma that the marriage is canceled. Morton and Jennings will not be related anymore! Tell her not to come looking for me.”
He left after that.
