Old Madam Griffin frowned at the words.
“Didn’t they give up searching back then? Why are they searching again now?”
Old Madam Quinton waved her hand.
“Forget it. I think Old Garrett doesn’t have much time left and just don’t want to leave while having regrets.”
The heavy topic made everyone silent for a moment.
In the end, it was Nell who broke the atmosphere.
“It seems like dinner is about to be served. Grandma, I’ll go check with the kitchen.”
Old Madam Quinton nodded.
At lunchtime, the Garrett family had heard that Old Master Griffin and his wife had returned, and had brought people over as well.
It was naturally inconvenient for Old Master Garrett to come over since he was in poor health, so Joseph Garrett simply brought over a few juniors to give their greetings. As the only girl from the younger generation, Stephanie Garrett naturally came as well.
Besides them, Jean Leith, who rarely returned to the Leith residence, too came back.
The moment she entered, she loudly pulled Stephanie Garrett and Old Madam Griffin over to chat.
Old Madam Quinton only gave birth to a pair of children. However, because her son had died young, she had to take part in her own child’s funeral.
She should have been kinder to her only daughter, but she did not really like her daughter’s character, so she was not too enthusiastic about her.
Naturally, everyone stayed for lunch.
The food was prepared lavishly with all kinds of dishes, and Jean served everyone on behalf of the Old Madam.
When choosing seats, no one knew whether it was intentional or not, but she pulled Stephanie Garrett to sit beside Gideon.
“Deon, you haven’t been back to the capital for a long time. All of us, including Stephanie, miss you. You’ve been so busy with work, but since you guys are old friends, it has been so long since you both have sat down together to catch up with each other. Today, I’ll give you the chance to have a good chat. Nelly, you wouldn’t mind, right?”
She looked provocatively at Nell while saying that.
Everyone else at the table was dying of embarrassment.
Nell was about to speak when the Old Madam said unhappily, “Jean, what are you arranging blindly there? If Stephanie sits there, then where will Nelly sit?”
Jean gave a fake and smarmy smile.
“Nelly can sit next to me. It just so happens that I haven’t talked to Nelly in a long time.”
“Nonsense!”
The Old Madam looked like she was about to get angry. Taking into account that there were other members from the Garrett family present and that the Garretts and the Leiths were longtime friends, it would not be good to break their harmony apart over such a small matter.
Nell smiled. “Grandma, it’s okay. I heard that Miss Garrett and Deon are high school classmates, so it’ll be nice for them to sit together and catch up. Isn’t there still a seat here? I’ll just sit here.”
Then, she sat on Gideon’s left.
At this, the Old Madam’s anger subsided slightly.
Mrs. Garrett felt awkward but ultimately did not stop her. Instead, she just laughed in embarrassment.
“Old Madam, look. This child is too ignorant.”
Old Madam Quinton did not say anything. All she could do was give a polite smile.
“It’s fine. They’re classmates. It’s only right to have a good relationship.”
With that, the matter was put to rest and the feast began.
During the meal, under Jean’s signal, Stephanie kept trying to engage in conversation with Gideon despite feeling shy.
