Though Nell repeatedly told herself to not be bothered by it, she still kept hearing Evelyn’s remark echoing in her mind. A strange feeling continued haunting her.
At that point, she could not help but laugh at herself.
Was this unceasing suspicion one of the inherent flaws of human nature?
She turned to Nancy.
“Nancy, Let’s go back.”
Nancy nodded, she got into the driver seat and started the engine.
The car rode on the wide-open highway. Nell held her phone in her hand, but her thoughts drifted away.
Her phone suddenly rang with an abrupt “Ding”.
She looked at the phone and saw that there was a message.
A frown appeared on Nell’s face. When she saw the name of the sender, she decided she was not going to open the message.
Still, her fingertips hovered over the message. She ended up opening it after a moment of hesitation.
Gregory had sent a message, and its content was simple and elaborate. It was just a picture.
It was a blonde-haired foreigner in the picture. He had a full beard and a large scar that ran from his forehead down to his chin.
Judging by the angle in which the picture was taken, it was probably captured in secret.
The lighting and image quality was rather poor. Still, it was enough to be able to see the person’s appearance.
With a frown, she scrolled to the bottom.
There was a short sentence attached at the end.
[His name is Y. He’s a member of the Bauhinia Clan in charge of Lin City in Country F. He has the answer to Old K’s death if you can find him.]
Nell shook a little. She recalled the same Y that Evelyn spoke of, it should be the same person as the one inside the picture.
If that was the case, the truth would be revealed in no time.
Her eyes grew darker when she thought of this, her fingertip hovered over the sender’s details for a moment before tapping down.
The call was answered quickly, she heard Gregory’s voice with a hint of laughter coming from the other end.
“Little Seven, miss me already?”
Nell could not be bothered with this nonsense, she cut straight to the point, “Why are you helping me?”
The other party chuckled.
“Old K wasn’t just your friend, he’s my subordinate too. Since you are already in Country F, I’m not going to bother with making the trip myself. Still, I wouldn’t mind handing off info that I have.”
Nell scoffed, she inclined that this man was just gloating over their predicament.
“Where did this kindness come from?”
Gregory said with a faint smile, “Little Seven, do you see your brother as a heartless man? Besides, this is a rather effortless task. Perhaps you would have some appreciation for your brother, this way I can also appear to have great familial values, what’s not to love?”
Nell thought about it for a moment, it did seem like something he would do.
She replied with a scoff, “You sure are good at spotting golden opportunities.”
Gregory pretended he did not sense the sarcasm in her tone, he snickered and went on again, “Little Seven, if you were going to praise your brother for his diligence you should just do it directly. How am I supposed to hear your praise if you run in circles like this?”
He paused briefly. “Then again, as long as it comes from you, your brother is still greatly pleased. Even if you would like to think that your brother broke this information to you for his benefit, so be it. Whose fault is it that I’ve taken such a liking for our Little Seven?”
Nell felt herself tensing up, her face turned blue with anger.
This man always had a knack at riling people up with his casual, easy remarks.
