Spoiled by the President novel Chapter 438

At the time, the two of them were still very young. An age of wonder and innocence.

Nell had just been rescued by Gregory and did not know anyone in the group. Being cast into a foreign world which she had never expected herself to be in, she quickly felt intimidated, perhaps even a little frightened.

There was no light in her eyes then. She was like a frail little hedgehog who hid in her corner all by herself.

Gregory saw that things were not going well with her. One day, he had every member of the group gathered together.

Everyone was bunched together and looked at her like she was an exotic animal. Gregory suggested if anyone was willing to become friends with her, they all felt a little embarrassed at the notion.

Evelyn took the initiative and stood up before anyone else did.

Back then, her bright smile was full of warmth.

She approached her like a miniature sun, immediately removing the gloom surrounding Nell.

Evelyn extended her hand with a smile on her face. “Hi there, my name is Evelyn, I’d like you to become my friend.”

That scene was deeply engraved in Nell’s mind.

It was a little silly, like children in the kindergarten becoming friends under the guidance of kindergarten teachers.

She remembered it to be such a heartwarming gesture, she would never forget it for the rest of her life.

Evelyn’s expression broke with a hint of sentimentality. She looked at Nell as if she could see her past self within Nell’s face.

Nell spoke softly, “Evelyn, back then, you were the first one who approached me. I thought that we were going to be best friends for the rest of our lives, but this time you have truly wounded me, do you know how I felt when I saw Gideon lying in a pool of blood?

I’m sure you have experienced the hopeless, lost sensation of losing your most beloved before, and yet you would mercilessly submit me to the same fate, how does that weigh on your conscience?”

Her voice was soft, it was almost completely weightless.

Yet, Evelyn felt as if a huge boulder had been cast on her chest, she could hardly catch her breath.

Nell looked at her reddened eyes, after some time, she suddenly turned around and headed out.

Evelyn trembled violently.

“Nell!”

She shouted after her, her voice had become slightly hoarse. Nell stopped without looking back.

After that, she heard Evelyn speak in an almost inaudible voice.

“It was the Bauhinia Clan. They sent me to assassinate Gideon.”

Nell shuddered.

She turned back in bewilderment and cast her harsh, sharp gaze on Evelyn. She remained that way for several seconds before she spoke, “Are you sure?”

Evelyn smiled sourly.

“How could I not be sure? I’ve been with him for several years. You probably don’t know about this, three years ago, back when the Dragon Regiment disbanded for the first time, I was frozen out by them. That was how I secretly switched over to the Clan.

“Over there, he was my direct superior. All of the tasks I’ve performed were direct orders from him, including this assassination attempt on Gideon. I did express my hesitation initially, but he promised me that he was going to let me go after I complete the mission.

“Nell, I’m tired. I’m tired of all the fighting and killing over the years. I don’t want to be in this race nor do I wish to wander anymore.

“I just want to live a normal life. I would do anything if it meant that I could live a normal life, even if it meant having to kill for it.”

Nell’s expression became tense. She silently listened to her rant.

Evelyn looked up at her. “It was Gideon who got on their bad side. Even if I didn’t kill him, they were going to send someone else to do It anyway. At the end of the day, there’s no difference, isn’t it?”

“No, there is a difference.”

She answered bluntly, “They’re not my friends, you are.”
