Aunt Joyce reassured Old Master Leith.
“Old Master, don’t be so anxious. Fortunately, they have already pre-arranged everything. Young Master, did you bring over the essentials?”
Gideon muttered, “We were rushing when we left the house so we left it at home. I’ve already asked someone to pick it up.”
“Alright. Let’s not be too worried. The missus is very strong so she’ll make it through this. Nothing will happen.”
Despite what Aunt Joyce said, she kept pacing the hallway. From the looks of it, she was the most perturbed of them all.
Gideon sat on the bench and hugged his head. This was his first time being so nervous that his fingertips had stiffened.
Feeling impatient with Aunt Joyce’s pacing, Gideon uttered, “Aunt Joyce, will you stop walking back and forth?”
Aunt Joyce saw the annoyed look on Gideon’s face and did not dare continue, so she just sat down quietly.
Gideon suddenly stood up and walked to the side a moment later.
Aunt Joyce was stunned. She wanted to call him back but was stopped by the Old Madam.
“Let him go. He’s probably the most nervous one here. Being alone can help him regulate his emotions.”
Aunt Joyce kept quiet.
Gideon walked to a remote corner that was not too far from the delivery room. He could still see the delivery room but was still far enough away to avoid the crowd.
He took out a packet of cigarettes from his pocket. If one looked closely, they could see his fingers shaking.
Holding the lighter, Gideon lowered his head and only managed to light up the cigarette after a few attempts.
Gideon took a few breaths and exhaled a few puffs of smoke. His pair of sharp eyes slowly turned red amidst the smoke.
At this moment, Matthew Starks brought over the things as Nell requested.
Matthew could see Gideon smoking in the corner. He called out, “President!”
With a sunken face, Gideon took over the bags from Matthew.
He then took another puff of the cigarette, stubbed it out, and threw it in the bin. Carrying the bags, Gideon walked back towards the delivery room arrogantly.
Seeing Gideon’s silhouette that looked like he had just come back from the dead, Matthew could not help but feel amused.
Was the president having a baby or going to war?
To Matthew, having a baby and going for battle were as different as the sky and land.
Though to Nell, these two were the same.
The operation was smooth and fast.
The main surgeon was an experienced old doctor. Gideon had specially requested for his transfer from abroad and he had been staying at the capital for 2 weeks awaiting Nell’s delivery.
The treatment was the same as during ancient times when the queen gave birth.
When a sharp baby’s cry came from the delivery room, everyone outside was startled at first but was overcome with joy a second later.
“The baby’s out!”
Gideon was overwhelmed.
The delivery room door was still closed but Gideon was frozen in place. It was like he was petrified upon hearing the baby’s cry.
Old Madam Leith shed a few tears of joy and pushed him forward.
“Why are you still standing here? He’s your son! Quick, go have a look!”
Gideon only reacted later because his body was shocked by the huge impact. No matter what he did, it was delayed by a few seconds, unlike his usual movements.
The doctor then brought the baby out.
“Congratulations, it’s a boy!”
“A boy’s good. Next time, he’ll surely be as bright as Deon.”
Everyone huddled around the baby. The Old Madam was the first to take the baby from the doctor’s arms. Looking at the baby all swaddled up with his small puffy eyes still shut, the Old Madam almost wept with joy.
Gideon’s face, however, was not as joyful.
Without even a glance at the baby, Gideon asked the doctor, “How’s my wife?”
The doctor smiled and said, “She still needs a few minutes to be cleaned up. She’ll be out in no time.”
“Can I go in to see her?”
“Wait a while, we don’t want to contaminate the room.”
