“This sum will be enough for you to enjoy yourself for many years. After Joel and I get married, you can return to be an actress. I promise that even if Xinghui doesn’t accept you, I will introduce you to other entertainment companies. You won’t be treated any poorer than your position now.”
Lucy’s eyes flickered across the number written on the check. It was a hundred million.
H*ck, this was truly… Gambling all in for love. What a spendthrift!
The corners of her lips etched into a mocking jeer. She raised her head and smiled brightly before she took the check. “Thank you very much.”
Jada did not expect Lucy to accept it so easily. Stunned, she stared into the younger woman’s eyes, but they were completely clear, without an ounce of complicated feelings.
She breathed a sigh of relief in her heart. This was fine, as long as this woman was willing to take a step backward, Jada would surely be able to return to Joel Foster’s side once again.
Although this sum of money had almost emptied out her family assets, everything was worth it in order to get Joel Foster.
Moreover, based on Lucy’s current situation, a lesser amount would not have persuaded her to leave.
“If there’s nothing else, I’m leaving.”
After Lucy said that, she got down from the car.
As Jada looked at Lucy’s departing figure, something felt wrong to her.
She turned to ask Sister Elsa, “Do you think she will really leave Young Master Foster?”
Sister Elsa scoffed, “This kind of woman only loves money. You’ve already given her one hundred million, she will surely leave him.”
Though for some reason, Jada was not convinced. Looking at the distress on Jada’s face, Sister Elsa tried to soothe her. “Don’t think too much. After all, the two of you were together for so long, he will not abandon you no matter what.”
Jada’s heart was assuaged. Yes, Joel would surely come back to her side!
…
It was already 6:00 pm when Lucy Katz arrived home. As soon as she exited the elevator, she was startled.
A burly man was leaning against her door. Judging by the cigarette butts littered on the floor, he must have been waiting for a long time.
“Why are you here?”
She carried her bag and walked over, but Joel Foster furrowed his brows. Instead of answering her question, he asked, “Didn’t you finish work much earlier? Why are you only home now?”
Lucy Katz answered him while she fiddled with her keys at the door. “On the way, there was a—” She paused and turned around, but she did not expect that Joel would be following behind her, so her lips accidentally brushed against his chin. Both of them froze for a second.
“On the way, there was a what?” Joel Foster’s lips curled mischievously. Leaning his palm against the door, he locked his arms around her as his eyes twinkled mysteriously.
The gap between them was too close. Lucy Katz could clearly smell the tobacco on his body, accompanied by a faint scent of sandalwood. It was not unpleasant, but quite unnerving.
She tightened the corners of her mouth and shook her head. She then pushed him aside. “Let me go, I need to open the door.”
When the door opened, it revealed a simple, two-bedroom apartment. The decoration and furnishing consisted of warm colors. There were also quite a lot of things and it made the living room look slightly cramped. Some of the furniture pieces were somewhat dated, but their owner had cleverly picked matching colors, so overall, they looked coordinated.
Lucy Katz gestured for him to sit on the sofa and poured two glasses of water. After handing him a glass, she explained, “Today, Jada Swanson came to see me. She paid me one hundred million to leave you.”
Joel Foster did not appear to be surprised, so he must have already expected as much. His gaze swept over the purified water in front of him with slight disgust, but finally, he picked it up and took a sip. “What did you say?”
“I agreed.”
“…”
The man glared at her. Despite the calm persona, he was obviously seething on the inside.
Lucy Katz shrugged and said indifferently, “It’s useless for you to glare at me. I’m nothing but a tiny ant. I have neither power nor influence, do you expect me to challenge her head-on?”
