Spoiled by the President novel Chapter 617

However, how could she be at ease?

She had experienced so many unbearable things. Including her family background and her past, everything about her was unreservedly placed before him and the world without any protection.

If she gave him her heart, could she get back the love that she deserved in return?

When Joel saw the hesitation in her eyes, his eyes darkened and his fingers brushed her eyes gently.

“Don’t look at me with such eyes. Lucy, they will break my heart.”

In the silent night, his husky voice was tinged with a mild and helpless sigh. It was her first time hearing such a sound from him.

He had always been arrogant and high-spirited. However, now he was like a traveler who had journeyed for a long distance, sighing deeply while hugging her.

She was about to cry, but she struggled and finally got up successfully because Joel did not continue to hold her.

Lucy took a step back, not daring to look at him. She lowered her eyes and forced a smile.

“Why do you talk about this topic in the middle of the night? I’m tired. Let’s talk about it tomorrow.”

She turned around and wanted to leave after she finished saying that.

With a frown, Joel wanted to say something. However, the words did not come out from his mouth after he suddenly thought of something.

As he stood up, he looked at her and said, “It’s too late. You should stay here tonight. If you want to go back, I can send you back tomorrow.”

Lucy paused for a while to think about it. She did not refuse and agreed.

That night, she stayed in the guest room upstairs. She lay on the bed after taking a shower, looking at the sky full of stars while feeling very upset.

The mean and spiteful voice that she had heard many years ago rang in her ears again.

She did not know whether her current behavior was too selfish or too careful.

Nonetheless, she was too tired. She did not want to experience those heart-wrenching love once again.

She knew that Joel seemed to be cynical on the outside. On the contrary, he was very filial.

If she agreed to him, would he not feel pressured when he had to choose his future?

Furthermore, she was not confident that Joel would always choose her under all circumstances.

She knew that she should not have this kind of thought. She knew that she should have faith in him. However, she was really scared.

She did not dare to gamble. She admitted that she was a coward. She only dared to hide where she felt safe and did not want to step out even if she would feel lonely where she was.

Even if he left her one day, she would feel sad.

Nonetheless, that stubborn self-esteem was like a vine that was densely entwined in her heart. She could not ignore it.

She did not know how she fell asleep in the end that night. She only remembered having a dream.

There were no longer the dark days of childhood in her dream. She dreamt that her father suddenly came back to life. The three of them lived happily together with her father still being the most capable office under Old Master Foster.

Mother sat at the window, skilfully tying a bow for her.

She was no longer a kid anymore. Instead, she had grown up. The three of them were like the most ordinary family in the world, full of sunshine, and they lived a happy life.

Lucy continued dreaming. She found that her pillow was wet with tears when she woke up from her dream.

Because she had forgotten to close the curtains yesterday, the sun streamed in the room through the window. Fortunately, the winter sun was not dazzling. However, it exuded a long-lost warmth.
