Spoiled by the President novel Chapter 654

“It’s only today when I came here that I figured that there’s certain prejudice that just extends from the core and deeply rooted, that it can’t be changed.”

She paused before suddenly picking up a glass from the table and solemnly facing Xavier. She continued, “If that’s the case, I really shouldn’t try too hard. Thank you for the kind words that you’ve said about my father. I trust that my father in heaven will be comforted by your words. As for the rest, I guess I’ll let nature take its course without forcing it.”

Lucy lifted her chin and downed the alcohol.

The furrow between Xavier’s eyes wrinkled.

Nevertheless, he just sighed in the end.

Picking up his glass, he took the drink in one gulp.

Xavier then lamented. “I know, you’re a good child. Nat, she...”

Struck by a thought, his eyes alighted with complex emotion. He simply shook his head.

“Leave it. We don’t have to talk about it. You should carry on with your dinner while I go over there and take a look.”

He got up and left his seat.

With the banquet in shambles, the remaining people did not have the appetite to continue eating.

Joel regretted listening to Xavier and bringing Lucy home. She had to go through all that for nothing.

Most importantly, he knew that Lucy’s last statement, in the end, was not because Natalie embarrassed her.

It was also for the reason Natalie brought up her mother.

The one thing children were unwilling to see the most was their parents suffering humiliation on their account.

Although Natalie did not succeed in putting Mother Katz to shame, the disgust and contempt between the lines were perceived by everyone on site.

Any youngster with a heart would not endure such words and attitude.

Everybody quietly finished their meal and left the dining table.

Joel refused to linger in the Foster Residence any longer. He departed along with Lucy after dinner.

During the journey back home, he took the wheel while holding Lucy’s hand.

The pair were silent all the way.

The car was filled with a peaceful and quiet atmosphere.

Lucy’s other arm was planted over the car window, propping her chin as she took in the outside view.

The cold breeze of a winter’s night poured in and caressed her bangs, adding to a castaway beauty amid the chaos.

Time passed until finally, Joel could not take it anymore.

He softly spoke. “The night breeze can be cold. You might catch a cold if you’re exposed too long.”

Joel then shut the car window.

Lucy’s hands and face were freezing due to the wind, but she was not opposed to this feeling. In fact, she kind of liked it.

The iciness was capable of freezing her brain to a conscious state that was unrestrained by any emotions.

She turned and looked at Joel.

“Why does your mother hate me so much?”

As a matter of fact, this was the one thing she could never figure out.

If Natalie despised her when she was younger, it was because she felt that the Katz family were beneath in wealth and power and not good enough for the Foster family.

Nevertheless, Lucy had risen to A-list celebrity status in the entertainment world through her hard work.

She was doing great, no matter in value, income, or influence.

Even though she could not compare to the socialites and heiresses of major clans, Lucy would not be denounced by the public for being undeserving of the Foster family.

Moreover, she was only twenty-three years old.

The road to the future was still a long one. As long as she was willing to put in the hard work, her future was immeasurable.

Why did Natalie hate her guts, to the point that she refused to give her even a tiny chance?

Joel fell silent at this question.
