There was a sudden pain in his heart.
The forgotten memories seemed to resurface at that moment, the night breeze blew open the door of memory, opening the bitter past.
October 23, 2019.
A night four years ago, a person stood in the heavy rain and told him that she would appear in four years.
She would come to him.
Although it had been four years, he thought of the scene that night the past four years constantly.
He thought of the girl’s cold eyes and determined face in that heavy downpour.
Her small figure was thin like a piece of paper that could be washed away in the rain at any moment, yet those eyes were calm and determined like indomitable steel, also looked like a leopard creeping and waiting for the opportunity, waiting for the chance to give him a fatal blow!
Gregory closed his eyes and recalled all those scenes in detail.
For a moment, he laughed.
It was unknown whether he was laughing at the girl or laughing at himself.
He finally opened his eyes after a while. Gregory turned around and walked out without hesitation.
Meanwhile.
A women’s prison three hundred kilometers away.
In the cold and humid cell, a thin figure sat quietly on the bed.
She lowered her head slightly, her tidy and short ear-length hair covered half her cheek, the dimmed light shone from the top of her head, her expression could not be seen clearly but her exquisite fair chin was vaguely visible.
The prison guard’s icy voice came from outside. “95201, you’ve got a call!”
She raised her head, revealing a delicate but unconcerned expression.
There was a pause in the prison guard’s eyes before the woman got up and left the bed.
The iron door of the cell slammed shut behind her. She stretched out her hands and let the guard handcuff her before walking towards the mailroom on the other side.
A row of wired phones were placed on the desk in the mailroom. She walked over, picked up one of the flipped receivers, and held it to her ear.
“Hey.”
The voice from the receiver was slightly coarse, yet sexy and sounded nice.
A girl’s clear voice came across, like a yellow oriole in the spring, full of joy. “Sister! You’re leaving tomorrow. Is it okay for me to pick you up?”
It was the voice of her half-sister, Jennie Taylor.
Vickie Thomas was stunned and did not react for some time.
Perhaps it was because she had not heard this voice for quite some time, or perhaps, she had never expected someone to pick her up after four years being in prison. She was once the notorious person who has lost her power and influence in which everybody would want to attack.
About half a minute later, she nodded gently and said, “Okay.”
The voice on the other end continued and sounded even happier due to Vickie’s agreement. “Sister, did you know that Uncle Abram’s son who used to bully you was drowned in an accident last year. As I said, serves him right! As expected, evil actions will bring retribution, now it’s his time!”
Vickie thought about it for approximately five to six seconds before remembering who Uncle Abram’s son was as told by her half-sister.
It was her step father’s neighbor. In the past, he always tried to get close to her due to her pretty face when she was young.
The boy was not that much older, and only two years her senior.
They used to be impulsive and awkward when they were young. He would go after her and refused to give up even though she was cool as a cucumber and played hard to get.
