Countless taunts and sneers came flooding in.
Thrown off-balance, Em was at a loss as she looked back at the crowd. She made a futile attempt to explain herself but just could not find the right words.
She turned to Celine to plead for her help but found the latter with her head hung low. Celine clung onto Jason’s arm, refusing to meet her eye.
It was as though they were both strangers.
Em was in depths of despair.
“Click! Click!”
Somebody forked out their phone and began to take pictures.
Soon, many more began to snap pictures of her.
Horrified, Em put her arms in the air before putting them over her face.
“Stop! Don’t take my picture! Don’t!”
“Why can’t we? An earth-shattering news like this ought to have pictures as proof, or else no one will believe Little Cloud In The Sky is you!”
“Yes, that’s right! Don’t tell me you still want to go through your game of deceit?”
These hedonistic boys with wealthy family backgrounds were jesting around, trying to make news on the hour.
They had no interest in Em’s feelings.
In a way, this was payback. They had indeed invested a lot in the disguised female divinity online and were unable to accept the vast discrepancy in looks.
Once everybody was done taking pictures, Celine stepped in.
“Enough! Stop taking pictures! It’s not like Em did it on purpose. She’s just a girl facing hardships in life. Can’t you let this pass?”
Seeing that Celine stepped up to the plate, everyone finally stopped.
As a matter of fact, they already had enough photographs.
Em was already choking with sobs. Nobody would be able to withstand such a public humiliation anyway.
Celine consoled her. “Em, don’t cry. I’m sorry, it’s all my fault. She wouldn’t have taken a jab at you if I didn’t step on her toes.”
Em quickly hurled a resentful stare at Nell.
Nell curled her lips in sarcasm.
Em was really stupid for failing see who was the real mastermind to this point. She had it coming!
Jason frowned.
At the end of the day, he did not want things to get out of hand. It was the school’s 70th anniversary after all. With various leaders across the school and district about to arrive any minute, this was not a sight to behold.
Hence, he took measures into his own hands and dispersed the crowd.
At this stage, everyone knew the show was over. There was nothing more to see here. Thus, they went about their way without a word.
Celine offered Em a few words of comfort before instructing Mia and Lily to accompany her to a guest room upstairs to rest.
After everyone left, Celine finally turned to gaze at Nell.
“Sister, you must be happy to stir such ruckus!”
Nell raised her brow.
She stared back at Celine with an amused look on her face. “Are you saying I started it?”
“I admit, Mia and Lily’s words stirred the pot but didn’t I explain on your behalf? Why did you have to be so aggressive and get on Em’s case? Don’t you know? She’s not from a rich family and only went online to earn an income, why did you have to...”
“I have no interest in listening to you air her dirty laundry!”
Nell coldly interrupted.
