However, Jennie was taken aback by the glance.
Still settling against her chair, Vickie curled her lips into a slight smile and her eyes were bright as usual. There were no signs of anger.
Perplexed and a little lost, Jennie probed. “Sister, aren’t... you angry?”
Vickie lifted a brow.
“Why should I be angry?”
“I...” She bit her lip and held her tongue.
Vickie smiled.
She faintly uttered, “You are genuinely concerned about me and not here to criticize me. I’m not unfamiliar that good advice can be unpleasant on the ear.”
Jennie heaved a sigh of relief within upon hearing these words.
She added. “Sister, it’s great that you understand. Are you still leaving?”
Vickie nodded.
She lifted her arm to pour herself a cup of tea before leaning over to fill Jennie’s cup to the brim. Vickie answered, “I have to go, Jennie. I can only tell you that I won’t hurt the innocent but I have to take back whatever that’s owed to me in this world.
“You might think that I’m seeking vengeance over a petty matter by doing so, but this is the only way to do good by those who have died. I must go.”
Jennie had a vacant look in her eyes.
It was obvious that she did not quite grasp the meaning behind Vickie’s words.
Not minding the slightest, Vickie grinned and pointed at the cup of tea in front of her. “Have some more tea. I’ll send you home after you’re done.”
Jennie lowered her line of vision and gazed at the tea beside her hand as she remained silent for a moment. After deciding against continuing the subject at hand, she picked up the cup and took a few sips.
The pair took it easy for a while before leaving the hotpot restaurant.
Vickie did not drive here while Jennie was merely an ordinary pink-collar worker who could not afford a car.
Hence, the two of them stood by the roadside and waited for a cab.
Since they had nothing to do while waiting for a car there, the pair engaged in a casual chat.
After the conversation in the restaurant, Jennie knew that it was impossible to change Vickie’s mind.
Instead of reinventing the wheel, she happily shared her upcoming plans with Vickie.
Jennie had in hand the hundred thousand bucks Vickie gave her and she planned to open up a clothing store.
Business was not great for physical shops due to the shift into e-commerce. With that in mind, she had the intention to rent a cheap tiny shop front. The customer flow was not important as the focus was having her own exhibition hall and priority on the sales online.
Jennie had always been interested in fashion design. She did not pursue further studies after graduation but had not stopped with extracurricular learning.
She might not compare to many great fashion designers, but she was capable of tailoring many clothes.
Jennie always had the dream of building her own brand and told Vickie about this before. Now that she had the opportunity, she hoped to give it a go.
First, she was going to design a few clothes following the current trend and put them online for sale. Jennie would put on display some ready-made clothes in the shop so that customers could try them out offline or come take a look, just like in those fashion design studios with sample clothes for fitting. From then on, she could build the brand step by step.
Vickie was not proficient in this particular subject but Jennie seemed to have it all organized by the sound of things.
She turned over and noticed the sparkling brilliance in the young woman’s eyes as she depicted her dream. It was a shimmer of endless hope and spirit that drew even Vickie in.
Vickie thought that it was great Jennie had it going for her.
