She saw Reina’s information on the document.
Vickie gasped, wide-eyed with shock.
“Reina?! How could it have been her?”
Gregory laughed coldly. “Indeed, I was surprised too. I believed that since the poisoning happened in the secondary kitchen, as the kitchen maid, she’d be the most suspicious and never do such a stupid thing.
“But it’s likely she realized that and used it to her advantage. Everyone would believe that she couldn’t have been the culprit. Yet she was the one behind this. It was just a pity that she was rather careless because my men found the leftover arsenic in her room.”
Vickie was horrified.
She looked up at him.
“Did she confess?”
Gregory nodded. “Yes, she did.”
Vickie felt conflicted.
Earlier when Yuliana was accusing her of sabotaging her, Vickie even stood up for Reina since she felt sorry for her.
To think that the person she helped in the past turned out to be her assailant.
Just what kind of person could just turn around and bite the hand that fed them like this?
Rage surged through Vickie
“Where is she?”
“Dead.”
A surprising outcome.
Vickie was taken aback. Gregory also furrowed his brows and sighed. “She committed suicide. After the incident, she figured that she was going to be in trouble or maybe she was afraid of us interrogating her, so she ingested the poison and killed herself. Arsenic is highly toxic and even though I got the doctor to come immediately, it was too late.”
Vickie fell silent.
Her gaze was a little chilly and Gregory knew that she was not pleased.
After some silence, she asked, “Are you sure that she’s the only one? There were no other accomplices?”
He shook his head.
“I only got Reina for now at least, if there was an accomplice we haven’t found them yet. I got my men to comb through her home and where she usually works but there was nothing else suspicious. As for whether there’s an accomplice in the chateau, I can’t give a definite answer yet.”
Vickie’s face scrunched up.
This was Gregory’s home turf and even he was not able to be certain.
That meant that the other party had hidden themselves well.
There was an indescribable feeling in Vickie’s chest and she could not seem to put her finger on what it was. It felt like there was a fog covering everything and you could not see in front of you. The truth was shrouded in mystery.
However, not all was lost. She was given some leads and as long as she kept looking, the answer would reveal itself.
In the end, the pair did not come to any solid conclusions.
The only certain thing was that from today onward, Vickie had to move into the main building with Gregory for her own safety.
Vickie had no objections to the suggestion.
Even though she still had no idea what Gregory was thinking, she knew that as long as she declined, he would not lay a finger on her.
Thus, moving to the main building was no loss to her. She was safer there.
Since saving her, Vickie also no longer rejected Gregory like she used to.
However, as for him and Yuliana…
