Nell pulled a menacing look.
She was boiling, but at the same time, baffled. What gave this man the courage to say such a thing to her!
“Jason Morton, you think too highly of yourself. For a man like you, why would you count on me to remain chaste for the rest of my life after we’ve split up? You must be so full of yourself to be this delusional!”
The biting remarks did get on Jason’s nerves.
“Nell Jennings, don’t tune out on my good intentions! Do you know what kind of person Gideon Leith is? Do you really understand him? The girl who is able to form a marriage union with the Leiths surely isn’t an average joe. Have you thought about what would happen to you if his fiancée ever found out?”
Nell faintly smiled.
“It’s none of your business whether or not I know him. I believe that even if we hadn’t known each other for long, I know him enough to at least be clear on his character. His upright and honorable nature isn’t something a disloyal rake could amount to.
“Also, I’m not afraid if his legal wife comes knocking on my door. Don’t ask me the reason why because I won’t tell you. I have the confidence so please remove that hypocritical concern of yours! You may not consider yourself pretentious but I just want to puke getting an earful from you.
“We are all adults. It’s fine if one cheats or loses interest, just as long as he doesn’t cheat while still having his ex-girlfriend in mind under the facade of affection. Celine Jennings might not feel sick to the stomach about it but I’m totally disgusted!”
With that, Nell took off without a care to their reaction.
Jason stood there with rage painting his face in shades of blue.
Hayley gawped at Nell’s receding figure as though she was some sort alien. It took a while before Hayley was able to snap back to reality.
“Brother, did she just lash out at you? When-when did she become like this? Wasn’t she always compliant towards you?”
Jason hit the roof the moment she brought it up.
Only God knew why the usually-docile Nell Jennings ended up like this!
Every word Nell spoke now was simply snide comments that were so cut-throat, it put them on the spot!
Could it be that the tender affections towards him before were only pretend?
As expected, he finally saw that woman’s true colors. Compared to Celine’s mild disposition, Nell’s temper was like that of a rock in a cesspit, nasty and icky. He was just fed up.
Tensing his facial muscles without another word, Jason turned and headed straight into the private room.
Hayley was infuriated by her brother’s refusal to answer.
“Sister Tara, do you think that my brother still has feelings for that woman? He showed no response despite her berating him!”
Tara’s face stiffened.
A brief moment later, she forced a smile. “Mr. Morton and Ms. Jennings were together for a long time. It’s not out of the ordinary if there’s still feelings there.”
Hayley widened her eyes in shock.
“Sister Tara, you think so too? Don’t tell me they’re bound to kiss and make up?”
There was a glint of desolate in Tara’s eyes.
Shortly, she let out a forceful smile.
“No.”
“Why?”
“Because... It’s best you ask Celine Jennings! She’d have a better idea.”
Reluctant to continue the conversation, Tara turned to walk into the private room.
With the both of them withholding the truth from her, Hayley stomped her foot out of anger.
Just then, an attendant approached from the opposite side.
Hayley snorted but the emergence of the attendant struck her with a thought.
Curling her lips into a wicked smile, Hayley advanced forward to stop the attendant from entering the opposite private room.
“You! Come with me.”
...
Nell had just relieved herself when she realized her phone in her purse had recorded two missed calls.
She scrolled to check. It was Gideon Leith. She must have missed the calls because her phone was on silent.
