His words befell the room with silence.
Gregory appeared to be grimacing. As a matter of fact, even though he had promised Jeff to find the Arcane Jade for him in exchange for the medicine to inhibit Vickie’s illness, he had never fully given up on seeking an alternative to save her.
However, Sean just made the very last hope he had to go up in smoke.
Now, Gregory only realized that Vickie’s illness was not that simple. Adopting a sullen look, he asked, “Mr. Miller, do you know the origins of these cells?”
He wondered if perhaps finding the source could possibly lead him to a solution.
Nevertheless, Sean shook his head. “You’ll have to ask the Flinders family if you wish to know the origins. This is their family’s hereditary disease, and one will have it as long as they carry the family’s bloodline. The details date back, and I’m afraid, they date back to a very long time ago.”
He then sighed.
Gregory was in a daze and it took a while before he nodded. “Alright, I understand.”
He turned to glance at Vickie. Their eyes met mid-air, bearing a sense of longing and heartache visible only to them.
Gregory felt sorry for the tormenting pain she had to endure while Vickie’s heart went out to him for toiling about because of her illness. She smiled faintly.
“Mr. Miller, thank you. We got it.” With that, Vickie got up.
Feeling down, Nell went ahead to hold her hand. “Don’t be sad. Isn’t there a way? At worst, you can take the medicine. Look at Louis and all the other people in the Flinders family. Didn’t they turn out okay and live to their old age? Jeff said it himself. You will be fine if you keep taking the medicine.”
Vickie nodded.
Although Gregory and Vickie were aware that Nell was speaking the truth, they had to admit that as long as Vickie was on that drug, they would forever be at the mercy of others. They were afraid that their only choice was to comply with Jeff, regardless of his demands in the future.
This was not something Gregory or Vickie would want to succumb to.
Just then, Nell’s eyes lit up. “Oh, right, Uncle Miller, are you proficient in pharmaceuticals?”
Sean took a glance at her and scoffed, “What do you think?”
“How about this? Vickie is in need of a drug to keep her health in check, but this drug is only accessible to the Flinders. They’ll be under the thumb of the Flinders if they have to get the medicine from the family in the long run. Can you help out to check on the contents of the drug? And, of course, it would be great if you could replicate it,” Nell replied with a smile.
This gave Vickie and Gregory a new idea. The couple looked at Sean with expectant eyes.
However, Sean looked upset. In fact, he would not even bother due to the fact she was of the Flinders family if it were not because of Nell and Cathy.
With that in mind, he turned black in complexion as he posed a question to Vickie, “They will give you the medicine as long as you help your family do their bidding. Why would you make that request of me?”
His tone was filled with grievance.
Vickie was taken aback. She was not stupid, so she could immediately read between the lines. Confused, she said, “Mr. Miller, you seem to have something to say about the Flinders. Might I ask you if you have a problem with them?”
Sean coldly responded, “It’s not really a problem, but I really don’t like the way you Flinders work. What good can come out of a family that toys with lives?”
