After a while, he placed the medicine down.
“Jeff gave you this?”
Vickie nodded.
“He said that only those from the Flinders household have access to this. We gave this stuff to other highly-skilled doctors for examination, but even they couldn’t verify the contents of it, let alone replicate it.”
The weight was visible between Vickie’s brows.
Sean nodded. “Of course, they can’t replicate it. It’s not a medicine but the fruit of a plant that goes by the name of Money Bead!”
These words left everyone dumbstruck.
“Money Bead? What’s that?”
Sean faintly answered, “It’s a rare poisonous plant. It’s said that the plant grows in extreme cold and dry areas, normally in close proximity to graves, but I’ve only read about it in books and reference materials. I’ve never seen one in real life.”
The color drained from Nell’s face. “It’s not sold in the market?”
Sean took a glance at her and coldly smirked. “Sold? I’d have thought it’s extinct if I didn’t see one today. Who’s selling it?”
Nell’s chest tightened.
Gregory solemnly chimed in, “It can only mean that Jeff has the plant if he’s able to provide one. At worst, I’ll charge over there with my men and snatch a twig or two.”
Sean shook his head. “It’s no use. It’s troublesome to nurture this plant. It should remain where it is growing. If it leaves its soil, the plant will wither in a second. It’d be pointless even if you get your hands on one.”
Everyone fell silent at Sean’s words.
Pursing her lips, Vickie took a while before forcing a smile. “Don’t bother with it then if that’s the case.”
Gregory’s brows were caught in a knot.
After relaying the information, Sean took Cathy along and departed.
The room resumed its silence. The lot remained in their individual seats without a word.
A long while later, Gideon broke the crippling silence, “Don’t be discouraged despite Uncle Miller’s words. Fortunately, Jeff is still negotiating with you. Should we get hold of the Arcane Jade in full, we don’t have to change for the medicine if worse comes to worst, and wecan instead opt for a few Money Beads. I trust he won’t refuse.”
Nell nodded. “He has his eyes mainly on the Arcane Jade. It doesn’t really matter to him whether Vickie’s dead or alive, so you don’t have to be overly concerned about it.”
Gregor threw her a glance without saying a word.
Vickie, on the other hand, smiled. “I know. Don’t worry about me. Let’s go with that. There are a lot of elders in the Flinders family, and I haven’t seen anyone suffering a premature death. I believe that all will be well as long as we get our hands on the Money Bead.”
Everyone gave a nod. With that, they went their separate ways.
Once Gregory and Vickie were gone, Nell asked in concern, “Gideon, I have a feeling that something doesn’t add up.”
