Gideon gave it a thought before recommending Mr. Donnelly to him.
Although Mr. Donnelly was a businessman, there were certain things that he might be able to lend a hand in.
After all, the many years of doing business in Country T did gain him far more extensive connections here compared to them. He probably could do a lot of good for them in this matter.
Gregory gave a nod and offered his gratitude before seeing them off.
By the time Nell’s party arrived back at the capital, it was already the afternoon. She wanted to invite Cathy and Sean to stay in Fengqiao Villa, but Cathy rejected the offer.
Tugging onto Nell’s arm, Cathy warmly smiled. “Nelly, thank you. I may not be able to remember the past, but I’m not afraid of people now. I’m in a much better place than before, and it’s all because of you.”
Nell had been by her side in recent times, trying her utmost to shower Cathy with warmth and kindness. The majority of inhabitants in the world had kind hearts, and not everyone was out to get her.
The longer Cathy hung out with Nell, the defense wall she held up against the outside world began to crumble. Still, she was afraid when strangers got too close.
However, she was at least able to handle regular social activities. Cathy was no longer the same person she was when she first arrived at the capital, the nervous wreck upon encounter with a stranger. She had needed Sean’s constant company then.
Nell grinned. “There’s no need to thank me between a mother and daughter. I’m more than happy for you to get better.”
Noticing that they were not in a rush to leave the airport, Nell asked, “Where are you guys going?”
Cathy joyfully answered, “We have been away for too long on this trip. We plan to return today. Our original plan was to visit Country T, but I was reluctant to part with you, hence why I flew with you to the capital. Nevertheless, we have booked the next flight and will be leaving right away.”
Nell was in shock to find out about that. Feeling touched and a sense of longing, she held onto Cathy’s hand. “Why are you going back so soon? I feel like I haven't talked much with you.” Her eyes turned red.
Cathy was also turning tearful. Nonetheless, she knew that compared to remaining in the capital, she would rather go back to the desert.
“It’s okay, Nelly. You can come to visit me whenever you have the time. I’ll send you the address of our residence. Don’t we have WeChat? We can be in contact anytime.”
Nell wiped away her tears and smiled. “Sure.”
After the exchange of words, they bade their farewells and parted ways.
Because Cathy and Sean had to move to another area to catch the flight while Nell and Gideon were leaving the airport, it was not convenient to send the former party off. Nell and Gideon saw the couple off from a distance before going their separate ways.
On the road back home, Nell was feeling rather down.
Aware of what was going on in her mind, Gideon held her hand and consoled her, “Don’t be upset. I’ll go with you to the desert after I’m done with work. You’d be able to meet your mother again.”
Nell let out a grin and sighed. “I used to think nothing of separation, but now I realize, it’s really annoying.”
Gideon nodded. “It is indeed very annoying.”
Once they were home, Nell and Gideon went to the old residence first to pick up the two little kiddos back home.
Having missed their parents, Lizzy and Little Viemond engaged in a show of affection upon the return of their parents. Finally, the sorrow that crept into Nell due to the painful farewell diminished a little.
Old Madam Quinton knew that Cathy had gone with them on the trip. After dinner, she pulled Nell aside and enquired concernedly, “Is everything okay with your mother?”
Nell nodded. “She’s good. Her health is all better now though she can’t remember the past.”
Old Madam Quinton was no stranger to her past, so of course, she knew about Cathy. She sighed. “It might be best that she can’t remember. There’s always pain and heartache in one’s lifetime, and not everyone has the chance to forget. It’s a great thing if your mother can’t remember.”
