Chapter 209: A song of ice and blood

Inside the cabin, everyone exhaled in relief, but the tension clung to the air like static, thick, unshaken, and waiting to snap. Georgina hugged her daughter tighter, her lipstick smudged, mascara trailing faint lines beneath her eyes. John sat like a statue, staring through the frosted window, eyes wide and distant, like he was expecting something to burst out of the snow at any moment.

Damon’s mother kept murmuring prayers, voice soft but unyielding. His father, Anderson, had his eyes shut tight, his hands gripping the armrests as if bracing for another impact. No one said a word. Even as the engines quieted and the hum of motion faded, the silence in the cabin buzzed with unspoken fear.

The cold had started to creep in, whispering along the floor and coiling around their ankles, but no one reached for a coat. Only Mark and Kate moved. Without hesitation, they opened the cabin door and stepped out into the blinding whiteness, boots crunching against fresh snow.

Kate immediately spotted Damon and smiled in relief, but her smile faltered when she saw his expression. His face was rigid, his eyes locked on something in the distance, jaw tight with fury and calculation.

Worried, she quickened her steps, Mark trailing close behind. They moved to stand beside him. Mister Artimius was there too, quiet and unreadable. The three of them stood in a solemn line, eyes fixed on the far edge of the white horizon. Sylvara also joined them after a couple of minutes.

At first, there was nothing. Just wind and snow. Then there was movement.

Dark shapes bled into the white, growing steadily larger with each second. Not just shapes, riders. Dozens, maybe more, racing toward them with impossible speed. But these weren’t men on horseback. They were riding snow wolves.

Towering, primal beasts with glacial fur and frost steaming from their nostrils. Their paws barely sank into the thick snow, and they moved freely in the frozen wasteland. The riders were draped in armor from top to bottom and many even had weapons. Damon, Mark and Kate immediately recognized many of them. They did not have to wonder who they were. They were familiar faces after all.

The Frozen Throne Guild was here. All of them. And they definitely weren’t here for a friendly visit.

"And so it begins." Artimius sighed.

Damon didn’t respond. His crimson eyes flicked between the guild members, calculating. Were they all capable of using soul arts? On top of that, they also had the wolves to deal with. If this was inside the game, there would be a different story unfolding right about now. However, this was outside the game and the world was yet to be enriched with mana.

Damon clenched his fists in frustration. He had already formed a mana core. He had half expected to have his mana core at his disposal even in the outside world. He was counting on it for these last few hours but it looked like things worked differently.

It seemed that it was not his original body that teleported to the game world directly. If that was the case then he would have been able to use his abilities and his mana core right now. Maybe only a part of him entered the game world despite having the tattoo.

It made sense because the balance in the game world would be completely shifted in some people’s favor if this was the case. However, it still did not account for the fact that these secret clans or families had access to soul arts which gave them an insane advantage.

If the weakest the secret families had a soul art at their disposal, obviously everyone else had as well. Damon had to assume that much if he did not want to underestimate his enemies.

As for the ice clan, he looked at Artimius and chuckled wryly. "So I am assuming everyone can use their soul energy?"

Artimius indifferently nodded in response. The old man once again looked extremely tired and worn out with a strange melancholy in his eyes. "Don’t worry, Blood God. Tonight, my sword will not stand with my clan. My sword will sing for you. We will fight together with you until we die and perish for all eternity. My word is my will and I will protect you until my last breath."

"Grandfather..." Sylvara shivered.

"My poor foolish child. My only regret is that you will be paying for the sins of this old man." Artimius let out a sigh. He then without further explanation charged ahead right into the army of the men he had once considered family and friends. Tonight they were all standing against him.

Snow blasted into the air in his wake as Artimius leapt forward, emerald robes flaring behind him like a banner of defiance. His silver hair streamed through the wind, catching the faint light.

In his hand, the shimmering sword of pure intent reformed, silent, ghostly, and lethal. He was no longer a weary old man. He was a warrior of myth, carving a path through the blizzard toward impossible odds.
