Chapter 629 Under a Spell
She then led the children to head toward the elevator Janet kept looking back at him. Her pitiful look made August's heart melt. He didn't withdraw his daze until Lucia and the two little ones went out of sight.
He took a deep breath and said to Zane, "Use your ID to check in the nearest room available to theirs."
"Got it." Zane complied
Soon, a room card was produced. It was the adjacent room. August raised his eyebrows and wheeled himself toward the elevator.
Dumbfounded, Zane hurriedly caught up with him and asked, "Sir, where am I supposed to stay?"
His ID had been used to check in. What about him? August replied blandly, "Go home. I can handle it myself."
After the initial puzzlement, Zane soon figured out the situation and curled his lips.
Seeing the expression on Zane's face, August wrinkled his brows and added, "Keep your phone on and come early next morning."
Zane nodded in consent. Lucia got on the elevator with Timothy and Janet. They were all wet and discomfited. When they got off and walked on the soft carpet, their clothes were still dripping water.
She swiped the card, went into the room, and heaved a sigh of relief. All the burden and pressure seemed to be gone in an instant. She quickly took off her coat, led the kids into the bathroom, drew a tub of hot water, and let them soak in it. The children's immune system was weak. They might fall ill if they didn't stay warm after getting soaked in the rain. Regardless of her own condition, she let the children have a hot bath first. When they were done, she wrapped them up in towels and carried them to the bed one after another. Only then did she feel relieved.
"Stay on the bed and watch TV. I'm going to take a shower." She turned on the TV and tuned in to a channel they liked.
The two children nodded obediently. She then turned around and went to the bathroom. Her entire body was cold, and the hot water was a bit overwhelming. Standing under the shower, she let the water run down her head. By and by, she felt warm again. Too many things happened this afternoon, and she hadn't gotten the time to mull them over. When she was alone in the quiet environment, all the ideas and emotions came flooding back. Her mind was a mess.
When she thought of Paul, a heavy burden seemed to be weighing her down. She felt breathless. Being betrayed by someone she trusted was horrible. She had planned to spend the rest of her life with him till such a thing happened. What should she do in the future?
The water splashed, drowning out the movements outside. In a wheelchair, August tapped on the door. An exquisite box was in his hand. It was a gift from the hotel and a benefit of the VIP membership. He didn't like this kind of creamy and sweet snack, but it looked good. He thought of the two cute kids next door and brought it over.
He also had something to talk to Lucia. There was no response, and he thought that they had gone to bed. Just then, brisk footsteps were heard coming from inside. A child seemed to be running
In the next instant, Timothy's milky voice came out. "Who is it?"
August heard the familiar voice, curled his lips, and whispered, "It's me."
The room went quiet for a while, and then the door opened with a creak. Through the crack, Timothy looked outside.
August smiled, "I have a gift for you guys."
Timothy looked at him warily. "What is it? It's late, and we're going to sleep."
The boy's mature demeanor amused August. He handed over the box. "Here are some pastries."
Timothy looked over and saw through the translucent box a variety of pastries. His appetite was whetted, but he remained calm on the surface. "It's late. My mom won't agree." Before he could finish his words, another head poked out. Her eyes glittered when Janet saw the person outside.
"Uncle Charming, what brings you here?" She pulled open the door and continued, "Come on in and play with us."
August smiled at her and said, "Let's do it another day. It's a bit late."
Just then, the door to the bathroom opened. In a towel, Lucia poked her head out. Her eyes rounded the moment she saw August. She cried out in shock, hid back in the bathroom,
and slammed the door shut. Her hysterical scream came out.
"What are you doing here? Who let you in? Rascal! Pervert!"
At the entrance, the three people gawked at each other. Soon, August came to his senses, handed the box to Janet, and whispered, "I'm going back. Good night!"
He then wheeled himself away. He wanted to talk to Lucia badly, but it was not the right time given her current state. He thought of her panicky look and smiled. Years apart, she was
already the mother of two children, but her jumpy character hadn't changed. She was still so cute.
