“Look at her face. Isn't it exactly that? Is there any need for us to ask any questions?”
“Fantastic acting, Ms. Rhonda. Just a second ago, you were saying that you hoped your sister would be able to clear her name, but right after you found out that she was fine, your expression changed. What beautiful sisterhood you've got there. It's quite... shocking.”
“No wonder the people say that Ms. Rhonda is pretentious. Look at her demeanor. She really is the poster child for pretentiousness. Even a saint won't be able to compare to her.”
Rhonda's knees buckled, and she nearly fell off the stage.
When her good friend saw that, she quickly shot out her arms to hold Rhonda.
“Ronni, you can't give up now. Hurry up and explain to them, or else the people are going to ruin your reputation.”
At that, Rhonda took in a deep breath to suppress the boiling resentment in her. Then, she forced the corners of her stiff lips upward into a smile.
“You've misunderstood the situation. I was too excited, so I lost control of myself. Bailey's my own sister, and she'll be my sister-in-law too. There's no one in the world I'd be closer to. Of course, I'm thrilled to hear that she's out of it now!”
Despite her sincere tone, no one knew how many people would actually believe in her words.
“Let's go. We're going to the police station now. Ms. Bailey's about to be acquitted, so let's hurry up and interview her. The world has been paying much attention to news about Anonymous, so if we get to verify that she is Anonymous with her own statement, we'll surely get the hottest headlines of the year.”
“Yes, yes! Let's hurry up and curry favor with Ms. Bailey. She's the only one who will allow us to earn big bucks. That lady's our actual cash cow.”
The reporters all rushed toward the exit, and in no time, the crowded mall turned spacious.
The people in the vicinity then turned to look at Rhonda as they began chatting away.
“Her plans have fallen through, huh? She only has herself to blame for this. She's doomed to be called a scheming b*tch from the moment she decided to climb into Mr. Luther's bed and give birth to a son without letting the Luthers know.”
“She's a daughter from the Jefferson family too, but they're worlds apart from each other. One has morals and keeps a low profile despite the many good things they do for the world, and the other tramples on those who are of a lower class than her. She's even looking down on everyone else just because she's in league with the Luther family. Pah! I don't know why she's being all proud. I'd say she's so useless she's not even worthy of bringing her sister the newspaper!”
“How could she have such fame if not for her sleeping with Mr. Luther? In contrast, Bailey built her fame with her own talents. All Rhonda does is seduce men. Indeed, they're completely different from each other.”
Rhonda was furious.
She was so furious that her entire body shook.
What she hated the most was outsiders comparing her with Bailey and them praising Bailey while looking down on her.
“Ronni, l-let's leave this place first,” Rhonda's good friend whispered into her ear as she held Rhonda.
Rhonda closed her eyes for a moment to tamp down the rising fury and grudge before walking down the stairs. Then, she walked toward the doorway as the others stared at her with mocking, disdainful eyes.
Bailey, Bailey, how I wish I could skin you alive!
In the reception room at the court, the person in charge of the court was greeting Felicity, who had abruptly come.
“Don't worry, Mrs. Luther. We have all the evidence for Ms. Bailey's case, so the court will pass the guilty verdict soon. It's just a matter of time now, so please patiently wait a little longer.”
