Someone like her? What does the mean by that?
Rhonda's choice of words annoyed Caridee.
“She's my future cousin-in-law. Why can't I mingle with her? Are you having doubts about my granddad and Edmund's tastes? Rhonda, I don't care what kind of bad blood you have with Bailey, but you're not allowed to disrespect her. She's my guest,” she warned.
Her threatening words made Rhonda tremble slightly.
She had been too occupied with Cadence's matters and taking care of Maxton to the point where she had been distant from Caridee.
I can't believe that cunning woman, Bailey, managed to fill my spot during those days and pollute that stubborn princess' mind. Caridee's a useful tool in the Luther family. I can't possibly let her get close to Bailey just like that. No. I've got to come up with a way to ruin their relationship. I can't let Caridee switch sides and support Bailey.
“Caridee, that's not what I meant. I'm sorry, Bailey. I spoke too carelessly just now. Anyway, where are you girls going?”
Sensing Bailey's impatience, Caridee snapped, not wanting to waste any more time arguing with Rhonda, “I've got some design-related questions for Bailey. Carry on with your work. We'll head upstairs now.”
With that, she pulled Bailey's hand and ran up the stairs.
When both of them passed Rhonda by, the latter put out her leg silently to trip Bailey.
Hmph. I'll make you trip to your death. Even if you don't die, I'm sure you'll be severely injured. Besides, you'll be utterly humiliated even if none of that happens.
“Ah!”
A piercing scream resonated along the stairs, attracting the attention of many housemaids.
Rhonda could be seen making a half twirl on the steps and falling headfirst.
If she were to tumble down the stairs, she could end up with a broken skull.
Bailey's lips curled, and a look of mockery flashed through her eyes as she shot out a hand to grab Rhonda's arm that was flailing in the air. With a heave, she pulled Rhonda back.
“Watch out, young lady. Initiating a fight on the stairs might backfire, you know? I won't be that kind to save you if this happens again,” Bailey said.
Rhonda slumped to the ground, her entire being trembling in horror. Evidently, she had not recovered from the shocking incident.
Bailey stifled a laugh and made her way to the final step of the stairs.
Caridee cast Rhonda, who was sitting on the steps, a conflicted gaze. She then said to the maids downstairs, “Take Ms. Rhonda back to her room. She's too shocked to move.”
With that, she turned around and hurried after Bailey.
Meanwhile, Rhonda watched them leave with her hands slowly balling into tight fists.
Bailey Jefferson... I won't let you off just like that.
Finally, Caridee caught up to Bailey. When the former wanted to say something, Bailey said, “What did you see earlier?”
Caridee pursed her lips and thought for a moment before hissing, “She hoisted with her own petard. I know you'll never take the initiative to mess with her, which means she was the one who tried to mess with you, but you made her plan backfire.”
Bailey chuckled and raised her brow. “You aren't that silly, after all. There's still hope.”
Puzzled, Caridee studied her with a frown. “Aren't you mad? If you didn't act swiftly enough, you could've tripped and fallen down. She's not that kind to save you, you know?”
