Victoria's body shuddered, and the words died in her throat.
Mr. Gezmond's wife? Lionel's wife? Is she here in Hallsbay too?
With those thoughts in mind, Victoria stiffly turned to look at the doorway.
It was then she saw a young woman in a wine-red dress striding over with a few bodyguards surrounding her.
She was a beautiful Adrune woman with delicate facial features; it was as if she was the magnum opus of a master sculptor.
She looked noble, elegant, fashionable, and stylish. Victoria could see all the good qualities of a modern woman in the young woman.
Furthermore, there was mirth in her eyes.
Victoria guessed that only a woman loved by a man would be able to have such peaceful delight in her eyes.
Lionel must adore her. I'm sure Lionel must be living a happy life with this beautiful woman by his side.
While those thoughts flashed past her mind, the voices of greetings traveled into her ears.
Their greetings of “Mrs. Luther” rushed into her ears and ached her heart.
“Wends, why are you here?” came a voice, and the entire lobby fell silent.
Victoria instinctively turned to look in the direction of the voice. She then saw a slender figure stepping out of the private elevator and walking toward the young woman at the doorway.
Victoria knew that figure well—it was an image that had been seared into her soul.
When she saw him reach out to pull the young woman into his arms, Victoria hastily spun around. The moment she lowered her gaze, a teardrop slid down her cheek and crept between her lips.
This hurts. This hurts so much.
However, Victoria did not have much time to recompose herself. Lionel had finally appeared in her line of sight, and she could not let the opportunity slip by her.
After taking in a few deep breaths, she plastered a smile on her face and walked over to the couple as the others stared at her.
It had been seven years. Although the knowledge of Lionel and Victoria's love had slowly faded with time, some of the older employees in the company were award of it.
When the crowd saw Victoria's appearance, they broke out into an uproar.
Wendy nudged Lionel and reminded, “Nell, there's a lady walking toward us right now. It seems like she knows you.”
At that, Lionel stiffened. Then, he turned around.
Once he registered the identity of the other woman walking toward him, the smile on his face froze.
Victoria continued her way over until she was in front of Lionel. She then flashed a smile at him and said, “Mr. Gezmond, please let me introduce myself. I'm the general manager of Saunders Group, Victoria Saunders. I was in a rush today, so please forgive me for how I haven't made an appointment with you. Mr. Gezmond, may I know if we can step aside for a brief talk?”
After the initial shock, Lionel returned to his graceful demeanor and inclined his head. “Sorry. My wife just came from abroad, so I'll need to take her home to rest. Let's do this another day when we're both free.”
With that said, he turned to look at Wendy and gently said, “Did Sebastian not come with you?”
Wendy snorted. “You miss your son, don't you? He's such a heartless boy. I asked him to greet you first, but he ran off to look for his friends the moment he got off the plane.”
As Lionel held his forehead, he sighed. “Our boy isn't in our control anymore now that he's all grown up. Forget it. Let's just let him enjoy his time. When my aunt and her family return to Hallsbay in a few days' time, I'll ask him to come back for a family meal.”
The entire time, Victoria kept her head hung. The longer she listened to their sweet interaction, the wider her smile became.
