Ken was the one speaking as he stood in front of the slightly arced desk.
Artemis leaned back in his chair and lightly tapped his fingers against the desk, eliciting a clear rhythmic sound.
After a short silence, Artemis finally spoke. “I didn't expect the Cyber Security Department to interfere so quickly. It looks like the Fletcher family's status within the political world is indeed significant. They can even give orders to a governmental department.”
Ken nodded. “If a federal department joins the investigation, it'll be difficult even for an excellent hacker like Ms. Jefferson to avoid detection. Moreover, she even left some traces in the research institute's database. That's like a beacon, asking for an investigation.”
Artemis rubbed his temples, feeling a headache forming. “I'll take over Bailey's account and draw the attention of the Cyber Security Department away from her. We'll talk about what happens next after that.”
“Huh?” Ken looked at Artemis with a confused look. “Are you planning to take the fall on behalf of Ms. Jefferson? Mr. Luther, you can't do that. If the Cyber Security Department finds out about you, it'll ruin the reputation you've built over the years.”
It's a criminal charge to hack the research institute's database and steal confidential information. Furthermore, the Fletcher family is fully capable of bringing the Luther family to court over this. I never expected him to be this crazy for a woman. Is it worth risking the entire Luther Group on the line just for one woman?
Artemis read his mind and chuckled. “She's my woman. I'm willing to risk my life in exchange for her safety if she needs it, let alone taking the fall for her,” he drawled out.
With that, Artemis bent over the computer, and his fingers started tapping on the keyboard swiftly.
Coincidentally, she isn't in the office right now since she left for the pharmaceutical factory for some work. I should be able to find her hacker account and login password if I hack into her office's computer system.
The sounds of furious tapping on the keyboard echoed across the spacious office.
After a moment, he discovered something on her computer that turned his stony expression black.
Resignation letter.
The two eye-catching words came into his sight. He felt a knot in his chest, constricting his airway. His breathing turned shorter as though something was squeezing his heart.
Bailey! How dare she even think about leaving Hallsbay. It looks like Old Mr. Chivers really did say something that provoked her. And now, she's thinking of a way to leave me. Great!
Ken noticed the dark look on Artemis' face and couldn't help but ask, “What's wrong, Boss? Are you unable to hack into Ms. Jefferson's computer?”
Artemis dragged his gaze away from the screen and glared at Ken. “What do you think?” he returned.
Um...
Ken slapped himself across the face. “I spoke without thinking. There's no system that you can't hack in this world. Ms. Jefferson's capabilities can't rival yours. If you do it seriously, you'll definitely leave her far behind in a trail of smoke.”
“Hmph!”
Artemis scoffed and returned his gaze to the screen. Looking at the resignation letter, he suddenly changed his mind.
If I steal her account, she will surely notice it and knows I've seen her resignation letter. With her craftiness, she'll just think of some other way to run away. By that time, it'll be difficult for me to stop her. I might as well deliberately fall for her trick so that she'll end up in my trap. In that case, I won't have to worry about what other ways she's planning to use to flee.
“I remember the International Programming Competition is about to be held soon, right here in Hallsbay. Chanaea still hasn't submitted any suitable programmers. If Spook participates in this competition and comes out as the champion, don't you think that'll make our country proud? In that case, do you think those d*ckheads from the Cyber Security Department will drop the case about her hacking into the research institute's database?”
Ken's eyes sparkled at the possibility.
