Waverly was in the living room at the Shurmer residence.
When she saw her son walk in, she stood up to greet him anxiously.
Earlier on, when Waverly was dealing with the personnel from the Department of Justice, there was no sign of panic on her face. Now that Zeke had returned, her true feelings were written all over her face.
“Zeke, what's going on with your sister? W-Why did she order Kayden to tamper with the new drug?”
Zeke looked at his mother and replied calmly, “I told you before that Zoey has been blinded by love, and you allowing her to do as she wished has only spoiled her rotten. Now that she has caused so much trouble, it will be impossible for her to get out of it. You should be mentally prepared that she will be sentenced to jail for her crime.”
“That sounds serious!”
Waverly looked at him in surprise and asked in a quavering voice, “Why did she spike the new drug? There's no reason for her to do that. Do you think someone else told her to do so?”
Zeke helped her back to the couch before he answered, “Has it ever crossed your mind who will be held responsible if the patients suffer various side effects after taking the new drug?”
Waverly was not stupid. She knew what her son was trying to get at.
“Are you telling me that Zozo wanted to sabotage Bailey, and that's why she did what she did? Then, how did the officers from the Department of Justice find out? Zozo may be impulsive, but she wouldn't have been so careless. How did the Department of Justice find out so quickly?”
Zeke rubbed his brows and said helplessly, “Kayden from Dyke Pharmaceutical is the one who tipped them off. He has already made a run for it. Before absconding, he handed a recording of the phone conversation between him and Zoey and a three hundred million check to the Department of Justice.”
Waverly turned pale immediately. “Are you saying that they have solid evidence?”
“Yes.” Zeke nodded and continued, “That's why I want you to be mentally prepared that Zoey will be incarcerated.”
“No!” Waverly stood up from the couch and raised her voice. “Your sister cannot go to prison! She's a girl. Once she has a criminal record, her life will be over!”
Zeke looked up at his mother and said casually, “It isn't up to you and me whether she goes to prison or not. It all depends on the Department of Justice. Personally, I think this will be a good lesson for her. If not, she will continue with her arrogant ways. Next time, she may not end up in jail. She may even lose her life.”
Waverly narrowed her eyes and stared at her son. “What do you mean? Do you intend to watch your sister get imprisoned for years?”
Zeke bowed his head slightly before responding nonchalantly, “Even if it isn't for a few years, we should at least let her stay inside for a couple of weeks. It will be an unforgettable lesson for her.”
Waverly let out a sigh of relief.
Since her son said that, then he must have a solution on hand. There was no way he would allow his sister to be convicted and sentenced to imprisonment.
Waverly was glad. Although Zeke was a very upright person, he would still help Zoey since they were siblings, after all.
“Do you know of any way to exonerate Zozo?”
After a moment of silence, Zeke answered, “I will try my best. Now that Bailey knows about the tampering incident, she has run some tests. Zoey will be found guilty if Bailey hands in those reports to the court.”
His meaning was clear. Whether Zoey would be found guilty or not all depended on what Bailey decided to do.
“Bailey...” Waverly mumbled her name, and a plan popped up in her mind.
It looked like she would have to meet Bailey after all.
