Waverly was stunned.
Clearly, she never expected Bailey to be so direct.
Regardless, hearing that from Bailey made Waverly relieved.
Straightforward people are much easier to deal with compared to those pretentious hypocrites with bad intentions.
“Ms. Jefferson, I like your straightforwardness. You've just arrived, and you're already jumping straight into the topic,” Waverly commented.
Bailey raised her brow and smiled. “I've been mistaken as you several times in the past, which appears to be a strange twist of fate. Besides, we would eventually have to dive into the main topic, anyway. There's no difference between talking about it now or later. Thus, there's no need for us to beat around the bush.”
Waverly smiled and nodded in response.
If only this lady wasn't Zozo's love rival. I probably could've treated her as my own daughter just because she looks exactly like me.
Though Waverly had given birth to Zoey, she could not find a single resemblance on her daughter's face. However, Waverly's attention was completely captured after meeting Bailey, who had such an interesting personality.
Unfortunately, Zoey had also fallen in love with the son of the Luther family. After weighing the pros and cons, she realized she only had one option.
“All right. Since you're so straightforward, then I shall be honest as well. My daughter is young and immature. She was too blinded by love that she thought there was something going on between you and Artemis. That's why she had a momentary lapse of judgment, which led her to make that mistake. Thankfully, no substantial damage was caused. For the sake of this good relationship we have, can you please forgive my daughter's foolish acts?”
Bailey side-eyed Waverly and flashed the latter a half smile. “What if I say there's really something going on between Artemis and me? Will you stand on your daughter's side and go against me in the future? Will I be creating a threat for myself if I forgive her today? Mrs. Shurmer, do you really think I'll do something so disadvantageous for myself?”
Waverly was truly the matriarch of the Shurmer family. Despite Bailey's uncomfortable questions, the former's expression never changed. Instead, she said calmly, “Oh, Ms. Jefferson, you must be joking. You've given Mr. Simon two children. In terms of seniority in the family, Artemis is the uncle of your two children. Anyone can date whomever they like, but you can never be with Artemis. That's against the social rules, after all. I'm sure you're a smart person, Ms. Jefferson. How could you go against the social rules?”
Bailey sneered inwardly.
And now she starts talking about morals, eh? Why didn't she consider the consequence of her daughter falling into my hands when she was condoning Zoey's actions of messing with me?
“Mrs. Shurmer, you're truly a smart person. Sadly, your daughter's foolishness has caused her to make a mistake that'll ruin her reputation.”
Waverly quickly chimed in, “Yes. She was being foolish. Otherwise, she wouldn't have come up with such a rotten idea. Ms. Jefferson, please state your terms. I'll never decline as long as it's something within the Shurmer family's powers.”
Bailey lowered her head and played with her nails while saying casually, “The test report for the new drug is out. Not only did she tell Kayden to switch out the original ingredients, she even switched out the sample I came up with. Thankfully, Kayden's rationality prevailed, and he reported this matter to the Department of Justice in time. If not, this batch of drugs would've caused many deaths once it was launched. I'd be the first to be criticized terribly. Do you think this matter can be resolved just because you say she was being stupid? This is a serious matter, after all.”
Waverly frowned.
She was no fool. Naturally, she sensed the threat behind Bailey's words.
Alas, it did Waverly no good, even if she saw through it.
She has the drug's test report. Once it's submitted to the court, Zozo will be found guilty.
“If that's the case, what do you think is the most appropriate way to settle this?”
