Bailey held her hand tightly and gave her an unswerving look.
“Leave it to me, and I'll figure something out.”
Her eyes projected confidence and assertiveness. Instantly, Veronique was assured.
This woman is full of charisma, and she just knows how to calm people down.
“Okay, I trust you. In that case, I'll find the right time to take Justin down and withdraw some sperm from his body. The moment I get them, I'll leave Hallsbay with Zephyr.”
Bailey frowned and asked, “Must you leave Hallsbay? Do you want to consider giving it a shot? If you succeed, the four of you can live happily ever after as a blissful family.”
“But what if I lose?” Veronique smiled wryly. “If I fail, dire consequences will follow. I've got no intention of offending the Fletcher family from Jadeborough. If it weren't for Zephyr's leukemia, I would never have appeared before Justin in this lifetime. Bay, I'm not an ambitious person. All I want is for my son to grow up peacefully. I couldn't care less about romance and all that.”
Bailey heaved a long sigh and replied, “Fine, I'll respect your decision. Let's seize Justin and withdraw his sperm. Subsequently, I'll tell him that we've found a bone marrow match abroad, so we don't need Scarlett's anymore. You can leave Hallsbay with Zephyr thereafter.”
“Okay.”
Unbeknownst to the two women, Zephyr was outside the study and overheard most of their conversation. As the effects of anesthesia subsided, he woke up and started searching for Bailey and Veronique. In the end, he stumbled upon the study.
The line where Bailey mentioned that they wanted to take Justin's sperm caught his ear.
Justin's sperm? Why do they need that?
Speculations flashed across his mind. He assessed his thoughts repeatedly, dismissed some delusional ideas, and formed new assumptions. He kept reminding himself that the truth would prevail, and he had no way to escape it.
It's suspicious enough for Aunt Veronique to bring me to Hallsbay. It's even weirder when Justin becomes entangled with her. All these tell me that I'm not Aunt Veronique's nephew, but...
The little one staggered backward at that thought.
They are scheming to get Justin's sperm. Isn't this solid proof to confirm my speculation? They are going to use his sperm to fertilize an ovum. Whatever for? To give birth to a new baby and use its cord blood to treat my leukemia, for I'm the son of Aunt Veronique and Justin.
Meanwhile, on a field at the medical base, Susan closed her laptop angrily. Slam!
Both her brothers exchanged glances, completely baffled. Did you get on her nerves?
Then, they shook their heads in unison.
Maxton leaned toward his sister and grinned. “Who stepped on your toes, my dear Susan?”
She tossed the laptop in her hand to Maxton and snapped, “Can't you see for yourself?”
Fine! What a sassy boss!
No one dared to mess with Susan, the precious darling of the family.
They just could not afford to anger her.
“Arethea Gourd? Who is she to compete against Ms. Luther for the Best Child Actor Award at the Oscars? Does she have a death wish?”
Susan pouted and hummed, “She's the heiress of the Gourds from Lostaria, whose uncle is apparently quite influential in the industry. My manager just texted me, saying that Arethea requested help from her uncle to bribe the upper management of the Oscars. If I don't get a favor through the back door, the award will go to her without a doubt.”
“How brazen!” Maxton narrowed his eyes and said, “I'll get Ratemis.”
“What for?” Zayron stopped him and said contemptuously, “If we want to drive somebody crazy, the best way is to let the person get to the highest pinnacle and then fall to the lowest pit harshly. Didn't she already get her uncle to use his connections to help her win the award? Well, she thinks she has won. Let her be on cloud nine for several days. When she finds out who goes home with the award on the day of the ceremony, she will fully understand how it feels to have everything she ever wanted taken away from her overnight.”
Maxton flashed Zayron a thumbs-up after hearing his plan. “You're undeniably the offspring of Ratemis, so vicious and cruel!”
Sitting in between her two brothers, Susan felt her heart leap with joy.
It's so nice to have everyone doting on me. The feeling of being spoiled is priceless!
