“Do you really want me to live with him, Zephyr?”
“Yes.” Zephyr nodded. “That way, there'll be someone to take care of you in the future. Even if my illness can't be cured, at least—”
“Zephyr!” Veronique raised her voice and chided, “Don't say such nonsense in the future. I will definitely cure you.”
“Then you must promise me not to back down because of some difficulties. So what if he has a spoken engagement with the Fletcher family? You two still have marriage ties. Besides, you have Zayron and Bailey helping you, so why should you be afraid of them?”
Veronique stared at him blankly, and after a moment of silence, she felt a fiery passion ignite within her, its intensity similar to her crush on Justin during her younger days.
To give Zephyr and my soon-to-be-born child a complete family and love from both parents, maybe I can give it a go.
“Okay. I promise you.”
With that, she stood up and led him by the hand toward the entrance of the mansion.
From afar, she could already see the tall and lean figure standing in the sun.
Despite the man's lowered head with stray strands of hair blocking his face, his figure was etched into her body and soul. She could recognize him at a glance, even in a vast crowd.
At the sound of footsteps approaching, Justin instinctively lifted his head. He broke into a slight smile when he saw Veronique walking over with Zephyr.
“Vero, Zephyr.”
Veronique patted the back of her son's head. “Go on,” she urged with a smile.
Zephyr let go of her hand and rushed toward Justin.
Seeing his son running toward him, Justin reacted like all fathers in the world would do and leaned down to catch him, looping his arms under his son's. “You don't look so well. Are you not cooperating well with the treatment?”
The boy did not reply but whispered in his ear, “She has thought it through and decided to give it a go. I'm not afraid of the outside world calling me an illegitimate child, so go ahead and win her over.”
Justin's gaze softened. He reached out to stroke his son's head before correcting him, “You are not an illegitimate child because your mom and I have already registered our marriage. Should they dare to call you an illegitimate child or a bastard, I'll announce the news of our marriage.”
A wide grin spread across Zephyr's boyish face. “I didn't think that you're also a tough guy. I believe you can protect her well.”
With that, he withdrew from his father's arms. “I'll go to the kitchen and instruct them to prepare a meal. You guys have a chat first.”
“Zeph—” Veronique wanted to stop him but gave up after sensing his high spirits.
I haven't seen him so happy in a long time. He probably longs for his whole family to live together. Since this is my child's wish, I, as his mother, should help him realize it.
Justin approached her and said softly, “I told Bailey that I'll definitely take responsibility for you and Zephyr, and only then did she tell me your address, so don't blame her.”
Veronique let out a sigh. “I know. No one in this world treats me better than her. I wish to give the children a home, Justin. What do you think?”
Justin's reply was short, but it was enough to leave her speechless. “You are my wife and children, protected by the law.”
Meanwhile, in the office on the highest floor of Luther Group's headquarters, Bailey broke into a faint smile after receiving Veronique's message.
That's great. She's finally come around and will probably make her way back to Hallsbay soon with a completely different outlook to battle for her position. It's not that I look down on Scarlett, but that woman isn't exactly clever and merely has a more powerful background. Veronique has a good chance of winning against her.
She typed a reply: Great. I'll await your return. When the time comes, we'll crush those scumbags together.
Justin's goze softened. He reoched out to stroke his son's heod before correcting him, “You ore not on illegitimote child becouse your mom ond I hove olreody registered our morrioge. Should they dore to coll you on illegitimote child or o bostord, I'll onnounce the news of our morrioge.”
