The scene where the child bled heavily was like a burning piece of metal etched deeply in her soul.
Each time she saw children around that age, her body and soul ached so hard that she felt out of breath.
No. She could not let go of that memory.
That man should be punished for killing his kid.
If that man did not receive his punishment, she would kill him to avenge Eugene.
Knock. Knock.
Someone knocked on the door.
She struggled to stand up and rushed to the kitchen, grabbing a kitchen knife before returning to the living room.
When she opened the door, she immediately swung the knife ahead.
However, the knife hit nothing. Without any resistance, she staggered forward and ended up standing outside the corridor.
It was quiet all around her, without any sound in the background.
She glanced left and right. The man was nowhere to be seen.
As she moved backward, her ankle was caught onto something, and she lost her balance, causing her to slump to the ground.
Her knife slid down from her grip, making a clanking sound as it dropped on the floor.
She lowered her gaze and saw some familiar food items and fruits.
They were the same items she grabbed at the supermarket but couldn't pay for.
Soon, footsteps could be heard coming from the stairs. Two young ladies walked past her and could not stop gossiping about her.
“Look at how haggard she is. I guess she must be heartbroken after a guy dumped her.”
“You're right. That's why we can't believe and rely on men so much. Women who rely on and trust men too much should have prepared themselves to be dumped one day.”
Shannon lowered her head and took in her haggard look. A wry smile tugged at her lips.
That's right. It serves me right.
Despite knowing that she could not afford to get close to that man and fall in love with him, she still foolishly devoted all her affection to him. Thus, she deserved her miserable ending. She brought this upon herself.

Meanwhile, Raiden rushed back from another city and headed to a suite in a five-star hotel to find his mother.
“You shouldn't have come to Hallsbay,” he said.
Tamara narrowed her eyes and questioned coldly, “Are you expecting me to sit back and do nothing like you when others are bullying Lettie? She was a sick child growing up and finally got a chance to live like a normal person. As a mother, I must do everything to make her happy.”
Raiden paced back and forth in the living room, trying to sound as patient as possible as he said, “Mother, you should know that Justin doesn't love Lettie. Forcing things never works. He doesn't care for your daughter now, so do you think he would treat her well if he were forced to marry her?”
“He can try hurting Lettie. She's the Fletcher family's precious little princess. No one dares lay a finger on her.”
“Fine.” Raiden waved a dismissive hand. “I don't think I can convince you otherwise, so it's pointless for me to continue doing this. Why don't you tell me your plan instead? What is your plan?”
“I discussed it with Bill. He will make his daughter return to Hallsbay and hold a press conference to clarify the rumors about the illegitimate child.”
“What about Justin? If he refuses to marry Lettie, what will you do? Will you use the Fletcher family's power to force him into marrying her?”
Tamara sneered. “We will see what the Xuereb family does about this. I believe Mrs. Xuereb will have a way to make her son compromise with this.”
Raiden did not know what to say.
