Holden narrowed his eyes slightly.
“Why? Do you think I am a cold-blooded man who won't even save his own son?” he asked icily.
“I'm sorry. You know that wasn't what I meant. I just panicked after realizing the Hoffman family knows about you and Sebastian.
Holden sneered, “Don't you worry about me. Mr. Gezmond. If he's my son, I'll do my best to save him.”
With that said, he walked down the stairs and added, “I'll head to the Hoffman family residence to meet their head now. Don't tell her about this. I don't want her to panic and act irrationally.”
Naturally, Holden was referring to Wendy.
Hearing that, Lionel raised his voice. “You're going to meet them just like this? If you head there personally, they'll confirm that their suspicion is right. That's telling them Sebastian is your son!”
“What else can I do? Should I wait until they chop off Sebastian's finger for real before starting a negotiation with them?”
Lionel was stumped at his answer. Sighing, he said, “Well, you're right. With their suspicion, they won't hand Sebastian over to us easily. They won't give up until they prove that Sebastian is your biological son.”
Holden wasn't about to waste time talking to him and hung up immediately.
At the parking lot, his phone rang again.
This time, it was still Lionel's phone number, but the person on the phone wasn't Lionel but Wendy.
“I overheard your conversation with Lionel. I won't act recklessly, so I hope you'll do the same. My sister has decided to return to the family. Please allow her to talk to Mr. Raymond first. We shall see if she can get Sebastian back. If she fails, we can figure out another way,” Wendy told him.
Holden's brows snapped together.
When I ignored things, she accused me of being cruel and heartless. Now when I want to take action, she's worried I might screw up. Women are difficult to please. Will I harm my own son?
“Holden, are you listening?”
Holden parted his lips and replied curtly, “Okay.”
She's worried that I'll ditch her son if I cannot fulfill the harsh conditions the Hoffman family stated, huh? If she doesn't trust me, then why did she come all the way to scold me earlier and ordered me to save our son?
Back at the Gezmond residence, Wendy grabbed Juliana's arm in the living room and said in a choking voice, “I'm sorry you have to bear responsibility for the mistake I did.”
Juliana flashed a nonchalant smile and patted Wendy's back in a comforting manner. “We're sisters, so don't say that. Our parents only have two daughters. Since you can't be the head of the family, that means I'll have to take over the position. It has been arranged early on, so I'm fine with it.”
“But—”
