“Everything to you, huh? You better remember what you said today, Micah. Don't throw a fit and harass Shannon.”
Micah did not respond and strode out of the living room instead.
He and Shannon had been through so much that everything had changed.
There was no need to think about the romance between them, as their humble devotion was the sincerest declaration. It was also their only way out.
At Shelbert Condominium, Artemis was leaning against the headboard in the bedroom as he answered a call.
“Mr. Wright of the racing association has been murdered, Mr. Luther.”
Artemis narrowed his eyes. “He's dead? Did you find out who was behind it?”
The other end fell silent for a moment before answering tentatively, “I have investigated his routine over the past couple of days and found he had met with all sorts of people. It took us all night to find a lead.”
“Tell me.”
“The bodyguard to Zoey, the heiress to the Shurmer family, was friendly with Mr. Wright and they communicated in private. More so over the past couple of days, in fact.”
Artemis clutched his phone. A cold glint flashed across his eyes.
It's that woman just as I thought.
“Very well. The person bribing the racing association has done something to the race car in an attempt to cause an accident to claim the life of my woman. If not for Bailey's timely intuition, we would have blamed it on the race car. This woman is good.”
“What should we do next, Mr. Luther?”
Artemis' lips spread into a thin, cruel smile, which was the foreshadowing of his rage. Someone was about to suffer.
“I will give you two photographs, and I want you to post them online anonymously. Title it as 'The Uncanny Resemblance Between Bailey, the Eldest Daughter of the Jefferson Family, and Waverly Gezmond, the Lady of the Shurmer Family,' and then expose the fact that Bailey is not the biological daughter of the Jefferson family.”
“Uh...” The other party was hesitant. “Don't you have to discuss this with Mrs. Luther, Mr. Luther? It pertains to her identity, after all.”
Artemis laughed coldly. “You would think that they have thought me dead from how they disrespected my wife? She is hot-tempered and would likely not take it well, but I cannot let her take this lying down. Just do as I say.”
“Understood.”
After ending the call, Artemis tossed his phone to the bedside table.
They wanted to show Zoey mercy by allowing her to remain as the heiress of the Shurmer family. However, she insisted on picking a fight instead of learning her place.
I've shown her mercy long enough. She will only turn bad or worse if I keep letting this slide. This time, it's sabotaging the car. She may do something more drastic next time, like coming at us with a knife.
The room door pushed open, and Bailey entered with a tray in her hands.
“What is it? Why the long face?” she asked when she saw Artemis scowling, then walked toward the side of the bed.
Artemis reached out to take the tray from her hands and placed it on the bedside table before grabbing her arm and pulling her into his embrace.
“The saboteur of the racecar has been discovered, Bay.”
With a start, Bailey turned to face him.
From her angle, she could only see the blurred outline of his features, which emanated an aura of fury.
Her eyes darted around as she asked tentatively, “Was it Rhonda or Zoey? Or was it Scarlett? Could it be Rose?”
