She deliberately planted listening devices in the study in the afternoon so that she could find out how they were planning to settle the matter.
Unsurprisingly, her father was really planning to use Bailey's blood data for a DNA test with him.
If the result showed that she was his daughter, she could guess that the Shurmers would take Bailey back into the family with how Zeke had been acting.
If that were to happen, Bailey was going to be the daughter of the Shurmers, and she... was going to be a worthless adopted daughter.
From then on, she would have to act according to that woman's wishes. How could she possibly stand that?
No, I can't just be a sitting duck. I won't just sit on my hands as I watch Bailey return to the Shurmer family and take over my identity and status.
With those thoughts in mind, she shot up from her bed and strode out of the bedroom.
The next day, Gerald and Felicity came to Shelbert Condominium.
Bailey froze when she opened the door and saw who was behind it.
“Why are you here?”
Felicity raked her gaze at Bailey's flat stomach before looking at her face.
They look alike! They look so alike! This girl shares half her facial features with Waverly. No wonder people are talking about how they must be mother and daughter. I finally know why I'm annoyed with her and can't bring myself to love her. It's because she looks like Waverly. She looks like the woman my husband has been missing for decades.
Gerald cleared his throat and disrupted the awkward atmosphere between the two.
“Aren't you going to invite us in for a seat?”
“What? Oh.” Bailey recovered from her shock and quickly moved aside. “You don't need to change your footwear. I'll clean the floor later.”
Right then, Maxton rushed out of the study and launched himself into Felicity's arms.
“Grandma, why are you here?”
Susan was not one to bear a long grudge, so she soon lunged into Gerald's arms as well.
“Grandpa...”
The couple answered in response before carrying their precious grandchildren up into their arms.
When Gerald heard the sounds from the kitchen, he lifted a brow and asked, “Is Artemis cooking?”
A look of shock flashed past Felicity's face when she heard that, and she turned toward the direction of the kitchen.
Indeed, there was a tall figure by the stove, and it was none other than Artemis.
“That boy knows how to cook?”
After watching the elderly man leave with his grandchildren, Bailey went over to sit on the couch with Felicity.
“I heard that you're pregnant,” Felicity calmly started.
Bailey curled her lips. “You heard it right. I am pregnant, but I don't know whether or not I want to keep the baby.”
“Why not?” Felicity asked, furrowing her brows. “Don't you and Artemis love each other very much? Why won't you want the baby? Bearing children for the Luther family is your duty as the Luther family's daughter-in-law. I had three children back then.”
Bailey blinked before giving Felicity a half-smile. “One of my children can already be enough for three of yours. Am I not doing enough?”
Felicity was stumped.
She did not know how to respond to that.
After a moment of silence, she quietly uttered, “I hope you can keep the baby. If you don't want to raise the baby, you can leave the baby to us. That way, you can continue to enjoy your current life.”
A sly glint flashed past Bailey's eyes, and she quipped, “Everyone says that I look like your love rival, Waverly. Won't you resent me to death if your son marries me and I turn out to be her daughter?”
Felicity's expression darkened.
Of all the things she could have said! I was about to ignore her birth circumstances, but she just wanted to remind me about it, huh?
“You're not like Zoey. Zoey's too soft and fragile, and that makes her seem pretentious. I don't like it. On the other hand, you're indifferent to most things and have few desires. If I had to pick either one of you, I'd rather choose you. Now stop trying to irk me with these things. I only have one question. Can you keep the baby?”
