Raiden lifted a brow and smiled.
“The news about the antique statue is spreading like wildfire out there. Naturally, I came to behold the marvelous thousand-year-old antique.”
At that, the eyes of the person in charge lit up.
Initially, he was unsure if he could actually take the antique statue away by the end of the day. However, Raiden's intervention heightened his chances of succeeding in that.
“Mr. Fletcher, my higher-ups have ordered me to send the antique statue to Jadeborough Museum. You're old friends with Ms. Jefferson, so could you please convince her to forgo the statue?”
“No,” came Raiden's instant reply. “I was the one who gifted her the statue, so I won't allow it to be taken away. You don't need to worry about your higher-ups because I'll deal with them. Stop harassing Bailey from now on, got it?”
A look of shock crossed the person in charge's face. He could not believe that Raiden had gifted Bailey a national treasure that was so important. If news of that were to get out to the public, the people would begin speculating about the nature of Bailey and Raiden's relationship.
One was the eldest son of a prestigious family who held military power, and the other was a single mother who had gotten pregnant before getting married. The two of them should not have crossed paths in life, and yet, Raiden was deliberately binding him and Bailey together.
“Mr. Fletcher regards this matter with great importance, too. He has ordered for both the antique statue and the emerald seal to be brought into the capital at the same time.”
Raiden icily glanced at him and muttered, “I'll explain things to my father. If the public were to ask about this, you'll tell them that I represented the country in gifting Bailey the antique statue. Do you understand?”
The other man was about to say something else, but Raiden shot him another cold glare.
“Of course, of course. I'll do as you say right away.”
At the tearoom, Bailey poured a cup of green tea for Raiden and sighed.
“You shouldn't have come. I'm now Artemis' woman. If you get involved in my matters, people will start talking about how you and I might be romantically involved. If this ends up enraging your parents, you'll have more troubles to come.”
I finally know what Zoey was trying to do by revealing the existence of the antique statue to the others. She's trying to force Raiden to admit that he is the one who gave me the statue. Then, his admittance will make the public start speculating if Raiden and I are romantically involved.
Raiden's marriage was of utmost importance to Tamara. She was not going to let Raiden sabotage his future by getting together with someone like Bailey, who already had children. To make sure that her son would not actually get into a relationship with Bailey, Tamara would certainly target Bailey.
Zoey's plan of using others to deal with me is indeed impressive. That way, she won't dirty her own hands. Mrs. Fletcher is indeed the best choice.
Tamara's identity wasn't as prominent before this, so she wasn't as powerful. However, when her husband had gone up the ranks, her status had risen as well—she was now the most esteemed lady.
Raiden chuckled, unperturbed. “I'm confident in you. Even if my mother wants to mess with you, I'm sure you'd be able to deal with her just fine.”
