Yvette's eyes lit up.
A memory loss pill, huh? She's right. I'll have to give Artemis one sooner or later anyway. There's no other way to remove Bailey from his life. As long as he remembers her, I'll never stand a chance. And when he loses his memories, I'll get him to deal with the Saviors and watch him kill Bailey. What a cruel but splendid idea!
At the thought of this, she clenched her teeth. “Is there really a drug that can erase one's memories? Would he really be able to forget everything about the person he loves?”
Sofie arched her brow and smirked. “Holden Lewitt was once deeply in love with the eldest daughter of the Hoffman family. He was even prepared to betray Tarragon for her, but Mr. Doyle drugged him with the same memory loss pill. Now, he doesn't even remember that Wendy Hoffman exists. Don't underestimate Tarragon's scientists, young lady. Not only is the memory loss pill they invented extremely potent, but there's also no cure for it. So cast your worries aside, ask Mr. Doyle for the drug, and make good use of this opportunity. This is your last chance to shine again.”
Yvette balled her hands into fists. “Okay. I'll do it.”
...
Back at the Xuereb residence, Justin stood next to the bed and gazed at his dying mother, his eyes full of grief.
Olivia wasn't just throwing a fit, nor was she merely trying to scare him. She was truly prepared to starve herself to death if he refused to give in to her wishes.
She intended to break Justin and Veronique up through her death.
In truth, she didn't have to go such lengths since Veronique wasn't going to live much longer anyway. The latter's chances of recovery were far too slim, and everyone knew that. They'd be lying to themselves if they said she'd get better.
No one would get in Olivia's way once Veronique was gone, so she really didn't have to risk her own life just to pull them apart.
“Must you really make me marry Scarlett? Are you going to insist even if it means I'd be living the rest of my life in misery?” asked Justin.
Olivia didn't answer. She couldn't speak in her current state anyway.
At that very moment, Ambrose returned from his walk and began to strike Justin with his cane.
Despite his old age, he still had a lot of strength in him.
The younger man's face paled after a few hits.
“You brat! It's fine if you don't care about your uncle, but do you not feel guilty seeing your own mother like this?” Ambrose yelled.
Justin remained silent.
“Your mother gave you her all! She kept you as her only child and spared no love, but what have you done in return? You put her through hell—all because of a woman she doesn't like!” the old man continued. “Are you really going to watch your mother starve herself in bed?”
Justin took a deep breath before turning to leave the room.
“Give me half a day to think about this. I'll be sure to give you guys an answer you'd be happy with. Please, Granddad, tell her to eat.”
